Biritsh situation in West Indies

Mon Dec 07, 2015 4:27 pm

Sorry for thread spamming, I hope I can be of some help to improve the game further.

I've took a look at the starting situation in West Indies for the British side, and found a few big discrepancies between the game and what's stated in Wikipedia...I know it's not a reliable historical source, but still it's unusual to see big differences in an AGEOD game...maybe wiki needs to be corrected! :)

Anyway, here we go:

1) the game starts (both in January and in August 1805) with 7000 British soldiers in Haiti, commanded by Coote and without any Fleet around Santo Doming to support them. As much as I've tried, I couldn't find any reference of a British invasion of Haiti or Santo Domingo that lasted from January to August of 1805.
Actually, here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Domingue and here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_acquisition_of_Santo_Domingo , it states that Haitians mostly fought the French and Spanish in that times, while being hostile to all white people.

2) While the troops in Haiti are commanded by Coote, that was CinC in Jamaica back then according to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyre_Coote_%28British_Army_officer%29, the actual C.O. in Jamaica is Sir James Henry Craig who is senior to Coote in-game and never served in West Indies, according to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Henry_Craig

3) ..but... the actual CinC in the W.I. theatre ingame is Sir Thomas Graham, in Barbados. Graham is going to be a much more important general than Coote or Craig in the wars, but according to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Graham,_1st_Baron_Lynedoch , he was only a Colonel in 1805 and was made Lt.General only in 1809!

I know W.I. isn't a very important theatre, so this aren't big issues but still I'd love to know if the Wiki pages are wrong or based on different sources from what have been used to make the initial OOB.

Thanks again for this great game!

Yup, probably some confusion with the 1798 British Expedition to Saint Domingue under general Maitland. Will need to investigate and fix porbably.
