capture of ships?

in naval battles, is capture of ships possible. if so how?

Yes, it's possible.

How? Speaking from experiences in Civil War II, if ships in the enemy fleet cannot escape, while trying to retreat, and cannot fight back (transports for example) these is some possibility one or more may be captured.

Generally it's nothing you can directly influence, unless you know exactly when and where vulnerable ships might be susceptible to attack.

do they events for boarding parties allow u to load marines onto ur vessels and do they increase the chances of ship capture.

In battles, you can only capture ships if they are transports indeed. If you take over an harbor with stranded ships, you can capture some of them, particularly if you are blockading the harbor. There is no boarding party feature in WON, sorry.

brigs and small ships get captured too. It's a bit of a shame that SOL can't get captured, first of all the routine means they soak up all the fire so tend to be sunk first, but it would be nice when there is a retreat check for the losing fleet for all the badly damaged ships to have to roll a dice against capture : It was then that usually a "dead on the water" ship could end up being captured.
