The Wrath of KHANrad: A CP view on the new Paradox OT Mass AAR

Mon Dec 01, 2014 4:36 am

It is my sad duty to inform you, AGEOD forums, that the original Paradox OT AAR has ended after a incident that resulted in the effective surrender of the Western Entente. Luckily a sequel has been organized and I, the Austro-Hungarian player, will document its proceedings here. _______________________________________________________________

So it is finally here! War! Austria may finally avenge herself upon her enemies, and no more will politicians in Budapest and Wein withhold funding from the K.u.K army for petty political purposes. I am in control now, and soon the backstabbing Italians, the terrorist kingdom of Serbia, and the gaping maw of the Russian horde will all be smashed. The declarations follow shortly from Serbia's rejection of our ultimatum and its insistence on harboring the terrorists who shot a Hapsburg. Whether or not one liked the man, such barbarisms cannot be allowed to occur and Serbia will pay the price for them.

Image

We will prosecute the war against their Russian enablers first, and once they have been weakened and the winter snows guard us against counterattack the bulk of our armies will move south to show those who would dare to insult five-hundred years of Hapsburg might and majesty that every once in awhile, you come across someone you shouldn't have messed with. At the moment our armies are still mobilizing for the most part, but one is mobilized already and will move into Chopin this turn. They will be joined by a corps from the North and then hold against the inevitable counterattack from General Brusilov. Chopin is a better defensive position that the one we currently hold, and the surrender of the fort is likely to have a deleterious effect on Russian morale.

Image

After that is dealt with we will move in on our other objectives, Dubno is likely to be the easiest to achieve before the end of august, the others will probably come later.

Image

In the Balkans Potiorek moves into place to pin the Serbian army into defending Belgrade until winter comes. No one wants revenge more than he, as he was in the car with Franz Ferdinand when he was shot and had personally assured him of his safety. He will be a useful asset in....pacifying the Serbian population and would make a good governor of Serbia & Bosnia after the war is over.

Image

I concentrate the K.u.K navy under admiral Horthy. With a bit of luck, and assuming only the French navy ends up in the blockade box of the med until Italy enters, I may see an opportunity to join battle with them. I'll send some destroyers or other small ships as a recon element in the Blockade box. Submarines would be better, but I don't have any. The final Tegetthoff-class Battleship will be done next turn (Szent Istvan) and will complete fleet with some 5100 or so power.

Warplans Chosen:

Austria-Hungary: Kaiser
Germany: Moltke
Russia: Grand Duke
France: Luxembourg Plan

That's all for this turn. Tune in soon to see the carnage begin. :)

Who are the other players Projekt? Can you list the 'cast' in your intro. Good luck as the Austrians. Moltke vs. Grand Duke will provide opportunities for the CP to ravage those Russian hordes...!!

So it begins. Fall Siegfried is in effect and with it the liberation of Russian Poland begins. Those who have suffered under the Russian tyranny will soon find themselves in the arms of the Hapsburgs, once the dragon has been slain of course. My forces will move in in three clusters. 5. Armee will hold Chotin against the inevitable counterattack from General Brusilov. With the river and my engineers, I am utterly confident in victory here. 3. Armee and 4. Armee will move towards Dubno and then on to Rowno, defeating the Russian army concentrated at Rowno and then storming the Fort. From there they will move in the direction of Kowel, storming Lutzk and Rowno along the way. 1. Armee and 2. Armee will move in for Lublin, it is a bit of a long march/train ride but with luck my forces will take the city. After that is done with they will move in on Ivangorod and then Brest Litovsk, hopefully meeting up with German forces there and completing the encirclement.

Image

In the south the Serbians seem to be beginning an offensive. I say let them spread themselves out. It will make my job much easier later on.

Image

Horthy doesn't manage to catch any French ships, but hopefully this will scare Nostra into providing heftier escorts away from his main fleet. I move Horthy to meat up with Szent Istvan in our southernmost port which I will use when my fleet has been properly stocked with ammunition as a forwards base of operations.

Image

The Germans draw first blood in two engagements against the Russians this turn and take Grodno. From there they will split with some troops moving towards Wilno and others moving to meet up with my forces at Brest-Litovsk.

Image

Image

Diplomatic options are fired that bring the Ottoman Empire closer to our side. They and the British are at 89% towards their respective sides.

This was a turn of many battles. Some went our way, some went the Entente's way, and some were inconclusive at best. The First was the French attack on Bonn, which was decidedly a victory for the Central Powers.

Image

The French struck back though, in the South Atlantic two German commerce raiders are caught by the French fleet and are sunk at the cost of a destroyer by the French.

Image

Next, the Germans stormed Lodz and began on their march towards Warsaw.

Image

Back on the Western Front, the French win a series of victories around Thionville and Metz where they lose far more men than the Germans do.

Image

Image

Image

There is a brief interruption from the east when the Germans take Wilna.

Image

And then it is back to the west.

Image

The Germans attempt to storm Grodno, but the local commander calls off the attack to rest after 3/4ths of the Garrison has been killed.

Image

So that's what happened to the Germans this turn, now on to Austria. There is a Titanic clash outside Dubno, the Russians suffer significantly more casualties than I but don't break and I am unable to take the fort. Despite having only 100 Rail capacity last turn the Russians managed to double their troop strength in Grodno, which I find to be a most impressive feat of logistics.

Image

In the Balkans, Oskar Potiorek manages to hold Sarajevo and retain 100% MC due to "Hold at all costs" posture but does so at with severe losses despite outnumbering the Attackers. It seems that the Slavic troops basically refused to fight Serbia at all, and that likely contributed to the high numbers of men lost. Either way though, the Serb offensive is now dead in its tracks and I can take comfort in that the Serbs will likely lose men to wear and tear on the way back to Serbia and thus somewhat even out the losses.

Image

Finally at Ivangorod one of 1. Armee got separated from 2. Armee and got badly mauled by MTSG Russian reinforcements, I have it retreating now with 2. Armee arriving to support in two days.

Image

Here is the current state of the Galician and Northern parts of the great ongoing Battle for Poland. While I may not have made much in the way of Progress it is actually a blessing in disguise, the Russians have all but abandoned fighting the Germans in favor of Fighting me and both the Southern German Force around Lodz and the Northern ones are all but unopposed and advancing rapidly. Quite soon the Russian flank at Ivangorod will be threatened by the Germans even as my armies recover and prepare to do the attack right this time.

Image

Image

At its forwards base the K.u.K. navy forms up and prepares for my next trick. The turn before Britain enters they will move down to the South Malta Channel (From whence I can cover all exits from the Island without being seen). With intercept orders and a good Admiral like Horthy I should be able to catch the British Mediterranean fleet as it leaves Malta and nab a glorious naval victory.

Image

Also, as a bit of a novelty, the first air battle of the war occurred this turn. The Russians lost 25 planes and the Germans 11 in a squabble over Memel.

Image

No requests for recruitment this turn because von Murrin let me do my own. 7. Armee also begins to form up under Archduke Eugen and should be ready in three turns with 8. Armee being ready in 5.

This turn we will start in the Balkans, where the Serbs sortied from Belgrade and stole some of my airplanes and supply wagons. This irks me, and again the Slavic troops lead by Krummer basically refuse to fight, so I send Eugen and 7. Armee down a bit early in the hopes of catching Putnik before he gets back over the river. My river monitors are preventing his supporting corps from MTSG and von Wurm will launch a feint-attack on him in the hopes of delaying his departure.

Image

Image

Now to Dubno, my men manage to extract themselves after a losing battle and will retire to Lemberg this turn to get reinforced next turn. Hopefully the Russians will advance from Dubno when they see this and I will be able to manage a backhand blow against them.

Image

Image

At Ivangorod my army ignores its orders to move out of the province, so this time I break it up into smaller and more evasive groups to hopefully have a better shot at getting out. A German attack on Ivangorod to take some of the Pressure of me would be greatly appreciated. Particularly since I plan to take 1. and 2. Armee, send them back to their depots to reinforce, and then send them down to Serbia for Fall Walküre. That said, not all is bad here. I nab 3 NM in a pair of victories over the Russians, much to my great surprise, making up for the 2 NM I lost to Putnik's stupid raid. One Austrian cavalry division does completely vanish from the OOB, but so do 2 Russian Infantry Divisions.

Image

Image

Image

As the battles at Ivangorod this turn were actually Austrian victories, surprisingly enough, and even though I gain no MC I manage to get one of my Generals promoted. He's bad, a 2-1-2 to be exact, but the sad thing is he isn't even one of my worst generals and in the lack of a better replacement he will end up leading 8. Armee. Unfortunately while Austria-Hungary has good and decent generals, almost none of them are available at start. My Army commanders are 1-0-2, 2-2-0, 2-2-1, 2-0-4, 2-0-2, 1-2-0 etc. and ad Nauseum. At least Eugen is a 5-3-3.

Image

Finally the K.u.K. Kriegflotte gets into position without a hitch and sets up its ambush. My one worry is that the English Admiral, Milne, is hard to catch and will want to retreat from battle after only 2 rounds. Luckily other than that trait he is a complete incompetent and has better subordinates so I am hoping TLG will leave Milne with the transports or submarines and inadvertently doom his fleet by doing so.

No battles this turn, which while giving me a much needed respite on land is kind of annoying on the sea. The British Mediterranean fleet did not leave Gibraltar (indeed a cursory glance at the map suggests none of the British fleets moved) and as such Horthy did not get his easy victory. On the bright side, I believe I remain undetected. The rain makes detection values drop like stones and the only nearby ships are a single pair of obsolete French Armored cruisers which have very low such values to begin with. Also the French Navy has been at sea basically from the beginning of the game in all likelihood (assuming it is blockading) so I am not particularly worried even if I am detected since they are likely to be rather low on Cohesion and the like. Plus even if they have detected me they probably won't come after me because they know they can't catch me if I tried to get away because of my head start on my bases. So yeah the basic gist is I am leaving the K.u.K Kreigflotte on station for one more turn in the hopes of bagging the Mediterranean fleet. Luckily, since none of the British fleets left port last turn, von Murrin still has a shot at killing the Channel Fleet if he was to position himself at Dogger Bank for example. I eagerly await his feelings on the matter.

Image

In the Balkans the core of 7. Armee arrives this turn and it will be fully assembled next turn. The Serbs retreat from Bosnia and Potiorek moves to start repairing the damaged lines. He will be receiving reinforcements as well and will become attached to Conrad's HQ. Speaking of Conrad he is heading down to the Balkans to turn said incompetent general into an army and to provide his wonderful stat boosts to my incompetent generals.

Image

1. Armee and 2. Armee are withdrawing to Crakow to get reinforced prior to moving south to be present for the December 1 Go-Day of Fall Walküre. With the Russians withdrawing from Poland and the Germans moving forwards in full strength they weren't really needed there anyway.

Image

Chotin falls to 5. Armee this turn netting us a point of NM from surrender and disband, and said army will head up to reinforce 3. Armee and 4. Armee to prepare for another go at Dubno. Even if I am withdrawing my focus from Russia I still have to keep up the pressure on him in the South to keep him from concentrating against the germans.

So first thing this turn we head to Galicia, where my armies have recovered and the Russian redeployment means I'm going to move in to siege Dubno, Lutzk, and seize Kowel. This should cut off one of the possible Russian escape routes from Poland.

Image

My armies in Poland pull back to Cracow, they will spend this turn recovering men and cohesion and then start railing down to the Balkans on the next.

Image

7. Armee reaches its full strength of over 1,000 power this turn with the Grenzers and Spare artillery merging. 6. Armee under Potiorek will be reaching full power next turn. For now it busies itself with repairing the rail line cut by the Serbians.

Image

Failing to successfully intercept the Mediterranean fleet or the French Cruisers, the K.u.K. Kreigflotte returns to its forwards base at Cattaro. There it will be joined by the Ottoman navy and reach a strength large enough (around 6,000 Power) to have a reasonable chance of challenging the Blockade fleet once it rests and recovers cohesion.

Image

If I get my requested Munitions factory I will have it built here, in Trieste. That way it can service my fleet right off the production line and will also be close to the Italian front.

This update will be short. Because I am tired and I just wrote a ten page essay on some mierda del toro and still have a lab report to write up later. I believe that any excess writing will cause my head to explode at this point.

Image

Nothing much happened for Austria. On the Balkan Front My armies concentrate for Fall Walkure, which will begin next turn.

Image

On the Eastern front the army that was supposed to take Kowel got delayed so I am shifting him west instead to occupy the rail line and build a depot. This should extend the front line forcing vR to redirect more troops from pursuing von Murrin to guarding against me.

Image

The Ottoman navy will enter my forward base in two turns. From there we will both recover cohesion and merge. That is all.

Again an uneventful turn occurs for Austria, but that changes now, because Fall Walküre is active. Nearly 600,000 Men and 2100 guns will hit the Serbian army of roughly 250,000 men and 400-500 guns next turn. The weather is muddy but mild, the Serbs are outnumbered 3 to 1 in combat power, 2 to 1 in men, and 4 or 5 to 1 in artillery. Test games indicate a 100% chance of success. It will be glorious. The first turn 6. Armee under Potiorek (4-3-1 with Conrad breathing down his neck, formerly 2-2-1) and 7. Armee under Eugen (5-3-3 with Conrad, formerly 4-3-3) will cross the river supported by the greatest barrage of the war thus far. 1. Armee, 2. Armee, and 8. Armee will act as reserves for the attack in Zemun. This way they will save cohesion and next turn they will use the rail lines to leapfrog over the crossing army's which will stay to recover cohesion or assault Belgrade depending on to what degree I win the first turn and continue bringing the fight to the Serbian Army. Rinse, lather, repeat. The ultimate objective of this offensive, more than taking any territory is to force the Serbian army to engage on impossible terms and destroy it as a fighting force. That way if I have to redeploy my armies before the Job is done I won't have to leave a substantial force behind. I'm so giddly, I just love offensives :)

Image

In Cattaro the Ottoman Navy makes port and I confirm that you can avoid multinational penalties so long as you have one appropriately born general/admiral in the stack. The Joint K.u.K.-Ottoman Navy will continue to recover cohesion and once it does I will whittle it down to the legal limit of 6,000 power, send out scouts and prepare to meet the French and defeat them in detail.

Image

In Galicia the Russians, as expected, redeploy forces to try and counter my moves. I shift supply wagons around to ensure continued logistics for 4. Armee, and prepare to build a depot next turn to adequately supply my men. A Russian cavalry division attempts a raid but is on g/g (he gained no MC and is thus on green), undoubtedly an attempt to draw away troops of mine from the front. I send some militia to deal with them instead.

Image

Bloody battles continue all along the front for Germany this turn, most go in their favor but casualties continue to mount. There are now about 1.1 Million CP dead and roughly 1.35 Million Entente dead.
