10/28/15 - The third battle of Festung Prezmysl (Galicia)

Mon Sep 22, 2014 5:17 pm

Brusilov's unit was left covering everyone else's retreat, and just in time, as freezing rain falls all over the Eastern Front.

10/30/15 - The battle of Tzaribrod (Bulgaria)

Mon Sep 22, 2014 5:22 pm

A painful reminder of importance of good reconnaisance. My elite Serb units - 4 best divisions in the country, 3 of them mountain ones - attempt to take a weakly defended hill. And have to fall back. Serbs have performed well in the first AAR, but they are doing just barely OK in this one.

In Galicia I pull back my aircraft off the front, but not in time to stop losing 13 more planes. All 13 had just reinforced my fighter wing, the paint was still wet. CP fighter coverage in Galicia is up to 36 known fighters. So, we're at 499:195 now.

Early November 1915 - Casualty recap

Mon Sep 22, 2014 5:25 pm

At 4,7 million lost, we're almost halfway to the total soldier casualties in WW1. And there is still 3 years to go, or more. Of course, playing with no delay results in higher losses than average.

French troops managed to capture another small town, but overall Germans are holding... and I expect them to regain land as winter attrition sets in.

No surprises here. Germany loses 3 colonies, but still holds on to Ostafrika.

Elsewhere, 100% rebel alignment in Great Britain has resulted in rebels controlling 4% of the country per the diplomatic screen... but I can't find a single province where that is the case.

11/12/15 - Battle of Yayiadereh (Armenia)

Mon Sep 22, 2014 6:20 pm

Ottoman troops muster southwest of Erzurum and attack my positions. Where just a single militia stack was present two months ago, they have quarter of a million men. Despite murderous fire of Russian guns, we still retreat.

I have several corps that were resting in Batum, as well as protecting the town against the other Ottoman army... looks like I will have to ship them to Erzurum immediately.

The good: my ground troops manage to capture an entire, intact Austro-Hungarian airbase with 48 recon airplanes.

The bad: overconfident in weather, I garrison one of my armies in Grodno. And the monster German stack returns, besieging it.

How much does it cost to lose an army? 8 morale.

How stupid was it to garrison that army in front of an enemy stack? A lot.

And why did my other units not come to help?

My fighters control the skies this turn, taking down 85 enemies, losing none. The final tally for the war is 495:344 now (I am including the 64 I captured).

And I get my first Ace unit.

Tue Sep 23, 2014 3:31 am

Empowered by their victory at Grodno, Germans march on through snow and sleet - luckily, they are repulsed yet again... but in a month their stack will be at 3300 power once more.

Tue Sep 23, 2014 5:08 am

Under cover of snow my Serb troops sneak across Sava and take Zemun. They have time to level the fort and burn the warehouses before Austrian vengeance comes.

Despite the notice of loss, my troops actually capture a couple of supply trains from CP.

After a rather quiet winter things are getting ready to heat up. Rumanian forces find themselves blockaded on all fronts, and a major Central Powers offensive seems imminent.

My prediction that Germany will recover all of its occupied lands on the Western front in the winter only partially comes true. What I do want to know, however, is how have the Western Allies been feeding their men all through the cold months with no depots?

I predict another CP offensive in Serbia, where my troops have spent the winter holding on to three depots: Belgrade, Nish, and Skopje. Belgrade has a fortress to fall back on, and Skopje is up in the mountains. What will happen to Nish?

4/15/1916 - The seventh battle of Kowno

Central Powers recover from the winter defeats, and come at me in force. After losing an entire army in Grodno, I do not have enough men to slow them down, and my troops retreat. Sadly, they start to head towards Eastern Prussia, which means a quick death from hunger.

Russian airforce is having a much better year than it did in 1916. In the opening round of battles for the season, we lose only 12 compared to 113 kills. And to add a cherry on top, 1916 models have started to arrive to the frontlines!

Things are getting more desperate by Belgrade. The Austrian army surrounding the city is no match for my Serb units, not to mention the plethora of Central Powers corps of all nations all around.

Things are dire. There is a solid chance that none of my 196K soldiers may make it back home. That might just mean the loss in the war, gentlemen - losses of that caliber would be tough to recover from.

I will definitely have to pull my forces from Prezsmyl, as Austrians are moving in to cut them off from the north. And I don't think I can hold Lemberg either. Good summer weather and past history of Austrian raids deep into Ukraine mean I have to be wary of encirclement.

Belgrade falls, and my only option is to fall back to the depot at Nish. 1916 may be the end that Serbia goes down in flames. It is a real shame that Greece is controlled by Western Entente; their stacks are just sitting and waiting, no aid provided whatsoever.

Early May 1916 - Airforce review

Sun Sep 28, 2014 3:33 am

36 more German planes are show down, as my new 1916 fighters make a quick work out of them. 507:493 - this virtually equal tally was unimaginable just a year ago, and yet here we are. Of course, as older German planes fall out of the sky, their replacements won't be so easy to handle. CP air tech is level 3 + 20%, mine - level 3 even. And if I have to rebuild infantry divisions for the next 6 months, I won't be able to advance it.

I just wish my recon and bomber airplanes would update. I seem to be flying the same "early" planes from 1914.

Rumanian front is starting to heat up as well. Bucharest is almost surrounded, and a couple of CP stacks try to sneak along the coast to Constanza. The skirmishes have been going non-stop in that area, but this past week the fighting started to get serious.

Caucasus front is one that I may have to give up if that means saving Moscow and St. Petersburg. I made some serious gains there, but, courtesy of railroads, I can ship my armies off to Lithuania for several months and be back in time to save Kars. Or so I hope.

Another round of battles, except this time German fighters would find my recon airplanes and vice versa. 19-45 is the tally for these two weeks, for the grand total of 526 Russian airplanes lost and 538 Central Powers' airplanes shot down. This is the first time that the numbers have turned in my favor.

Ottoman troops are continuing their advance, fighting for each province, but winning due to their 2:1 superiority. Erzurum falls, and I seriously consider withdrawal from the theatre. To make things worse, a lone Turkish corps I've been chasing reappeared out of nowhere by Erevan and threatens to cut my supply lines.
