Vanishing into the Blue

Tue Feb 20, 2018 12:54 am

In a pbem game, it's early December 1915 and I'm the Central powers .

My Aviation research just went to level 3 and 0%.

Somehow, my fighter replacement icon vanished with the level jump and the 2 fighter replacements that were in stock became naval bombers.

The air war has been pretty hot these last few turns, so without access to replacements, my goose is cooked. :pleure:

Nikel,

Thanks for the reply.

I have been trying out a number of things, and one of them was buying a replacement chit called "level bomber."

It appears that these "level bomber" replacements are being used to replace my fighter losses. So, that leads me to think there's a case of mislabeling that kicks in at level 3 for the CP.

On the other hand, the new "Naval bomber" chits, that showed up at the same time, seem to have no purpose and are not being used.

I see, you are right.

If you open the file 63CMNFighter Squadron (1916).mdl, that I guess corresponds to level 3, you may read

Code: Select all

UID = 63
NationTag = CMN
Name = Fighter Squadron (1916)
Alias = mdl_CMN_Air_Fig_3
ShortName = Fight. Sqd.
Text = $mdl_txt_CMN_Air_Fig3
Family = $famAirFighter
ImageID = symbol_EarlyLevelBomber.png

While earlier, in 1914, the symbol is that of an early fighter.

Code: Select all

UID = 61
NationTag = CMN
Name = Fighter Squadron (1914)
Alias = mdl_CMN_Air_Fig_1
ShortName = Fight. Sqd.
Text = $mdl_txt_CMN_Air_Fig1
Family = $famAirFighter
ImageID = symbol_EarlyFighter.png

So the NATO symbol is of a level bomber from 1916 model (level 3) and also in 1918 or 4.

Bug or intended I do not know, because there are no symbols for late or advanced fighters. It is confusing, so they should have used the symbol early fighter, or better called just fighter along the war.

In the manual it is said that

Code: Select all

Aviation Research: Aviation research will improve the fighting capabilities of air units, and at later levels improve the bombing capabilities as well. Early planes are incapable of combat, and maintaining an edge in this category is crucial for claiming the skies (and in turn keeping tabs on enemy positions and strength).

That must be the reason to use a bomber symbol. While the model "60CMNAircraft Squadron (early).mdl" uses "symbol_EarlyRecoPlaneAlt.png".

You may fix it just by changing the line.

I do not find a symbol or model for a naval bomber, may you post a pic?
