Victory Points

Fri Jan 14, 2022 10:57 pm

What exactly are victory points supposed to represent?

(1) Is it an indirect measure of how well the war is going? Thus, victory points are an influence on the National Morale of a country?

(2) Is it a measure of the advantage that one side has over another in terms of a negotiated peace?

If the campaign times out, then a negotiated end to the war is assumed to take place. The victor is then determined based on victory points. However, victory points don’t seem to represent the advantages in a negotiated settlement. What matters is not how long you held the African colonies, but do you hold them at the end of the war? Additionally, while capital ship losses may have strategic implications for a country in a post-war world, they are not really a factor in the peace negotiations.

Victory points were used to determine the winning side in some first AGEOD games.

In some games, not sure for EAW, they can be part of an option or decisions cost.

Regarding a negociated peace, there is no advanced diplo in EAW. So it cannot happen IHMO.

Not sure if the above will help

Well, you need some way to determine who is the victor, if victory is not complete.

If you want to theorise, I choose your second option.

Ageod games are not the only ones that use this system. Look at a victory screen in WitP-AE.

They are given by bases controlled and losses inflicted, equivalent to cities controlled and elements losses inflicted in Ageod.

But there is also a third factor in Ageod, VPs are lost by political points.

However it is not listed in the manual, but appears in-game.

Edit: yes, it is working the NMs ans the VPs are reduced the next turn.

But no idea on how that huge number is calculated, 0 and 45 are the political points for von Klug and von Falkenhayn. The 0 is strange.
