U-boat Shipyards

Most of the german u-boats in WWI were constructed in 5 shipyards (in 4 cities):

A.G. Weser, Bremen (81)

Blohm & Voss, Hamburg (89)

Germaniawerft, Kiel (84)

Kaiserliche Werft, Danzig (46)

Vulcan, Hamburg (69)


However in the game in 1916 scenario when you can build subs squadrons, it is possible in 3, the 3 in green in the map with the structures are:

Bremen (city, harbor, depot).

Stettin (city, depot, harbor, shipyard).

Danzig (city, depot, fort, naval base).

It is true that in 1914 when only coastal subs can be built, Kiel and Hamburg are also available, the structures inside are:


Kiel (city, depot, fort, naval base).

Hamburg (city, depot, trade port).

In the other 3 the structures are the same.

So the question is, which structure controls the u-boats construction? Cannot be the city+depot! The only coincidences in structures of the 3 or 5 cities in both scenarios.

Besides Hamburg and Kiel, where most were built, are missing in the game in 1916 and the construction of course continued there. On the other hand, Stettin was not historically relevant for u-boats and is present in both scenarios, and it is the only city where a shipyard is? :bonk:

How this could be improved?

Naval construction is governed by the structure's naval build attribute. There doesn't appear to be a separate attribute for submarine construction. I am unsure of how the size of the structure affects the build weight.

Naval Base, 10
Shipyard, 50

Cities
Bremen, 5
Stettin, 55
Danzig, 10
Kiel, 10
Hamburg, 5

Hi,

According to the DB: To build german U boats, a a city with an harbor/port and WSU production is required in addition to Naval Construction capacity of 10.

Ingame, the WSU requirement is not working. You only need a port and a structure with a naval construction capacity greater than 10.

You can see Structures income and construction capacity cliking on a city while pressing left CTRL.

There are many ways to have the cities you want as the only ones able to build u- boats. The simpliest is a to define a custom area with only the desired regions.

"WSU requirement is not working", is a DB bug or engine bug?

Strange to my mind the design. It is OK that surface and subs building are not separated for not complicating things too much.

But it you want a city with naval building, why not just use the shipyard structure?

Instead there is a mess of harbors, trade ports, naval bases,... and shipyards with naval construction capacity.

And for the custom area suggestion :hat:
