We all Live in a Yellow Submarine

Light cruisers and destroyers can escort merchant ships and hunt U-boots.

What about torpedo boats? Are they of any use in undersea warfare?

They don't even rate a mention in the manual. Logic would dictate that they have some role to play otherwise why include them as a distinct class, and apart from sopping up damage hits the only thing that seems reasonable is anti-sub.

Tried running a few tests with various light cruiser+destroyer v. light cruiser+tb v. light cruiser alone configurations but the results were so variable it would take many (and probably many many) runs to get anything reliable. I'll try some straight destroyer v. tb when I'm less fed up, but I'm not sure how many nil results it would take to persuade me that they had no effect at all.

Torpedoes boats can be used for undersea warfare.
But Torpedoes boats do no inflict damage to enemy unless the combat range is 0 (Assault/mele).
Same as submarine.
So in theory, you can escort merchants and hunt submarines. But they will be less efficient that cruiser/destroyers.
I think best use of torpedo boats is have them include in your battle fleets, they are cheap and have the screener ability.

Wow, that's arcane stuff Bohemond. Don't know where you got it but it's exactly what's needed to make sense of the class. Many thanks.

You mean the game files.

The database was never uploaded to the forum, though requested several times.

I have a Database from EAW, I did help a very little bit on this game.
It is not my property, it is the designers one, so I do not feel comfortable releasing it to the forum. Kind of NDA.

But I will try to answer questions when time and knowledge permit.

OK, thanks Bohémond.

Given that the game is now clearly in their "What, that old thing?" basket, might we not prevail upon whomever is now responsible to liberate the database. I'm happy to carry that forward if someone can shoot me a contact point.

Altaris is the boss.

But he is gone.

Somebody knows his mail?

Altaris resurfaced a bit (haha, see the topic :bonk: ) for a while for the beta of Empires but had severe issues with a hand, and so had to stop helping. I guess that's also the reason he has stopped all game modding activities.

I don't think he will hold me some grudge if one of you mail him and asking for his latest database, I don't think I have a recent one either.

Send me an email, remind me this is about this thread, and I'll give him his email. His real name is Ben

Epa, you may request him also the issues list he commented?

Perhaps somebody will fix some of them, or not.

Who am I thinking of? :siffle:

Okay, can't hurt to ask. From what Pocus has said, however, Alta isn't exactly in top working order. So if he is able to push anything our way I think any fixes might have to be "outsourced".

I was not thinking of Altaris.

But somebody who posted in this thread and his name starts with B :hat:

Yes, I'm also going to duck into the bombproof on this one; my computer skills are pretty limited.

As commented in another thread, if you post some confirmed bugs, perhaps Bohemond can fix them.

I was thinking of creating some kind of unofficial patch.

Other issue is modding, adding events and stuff to the game.

There were some request in the past so that the database was uploaded to help the effort.

No database came, and nothing was done.

In that vein, the Ultimate Enhancement Mod looks sensational, and I gather it's playable as a two-player setup.
Keep at it Nik - it's members like you who keep this game alive.

It was Altaris' himself work. But I guess thinking in multiplayer.

Any news from him?

No - Pocus has passed on our request but nothing beyond that. Reading between the lines a little I figure Altaris might have more to concern himself with than begging letters from fans.

It won't hurt us (well it will but not fatally) to sit tight for a while and give the lad some space.

Yes, of course.
