Artillery bug relating to shell usage

Wed Oct 01, 2014 10:32 pm

This is in the latest patch 1.01 RC7

There is an issue when firing medium artillery that uses shell ammo. The ammo usage is not being attributed correctly to the firing artillery.

A simple test can replicate.

1. Start Western Front campaign as France. I also turn off the AI
2. Add 20 corps and 9 corps in Nancy to French 2nd Army.
3. Remove munitions unit from French 2nd Army as it only complicates the results
4. French 2nd Army now contains three medium artillery, 23e under the army, 17e under 20 corps and 18e under 9 corps
5. March 2nd Army to Metz with offensive posture.
6. Battle will result

In my test I saw the following although this is not a one off and can be repeated with slight variations.

23e fired 8 times and had 2 shells left from 36
17e fired 8 times and had 36 shells left from 36
18e fired 11 times and had 16 shells left from 36

That is a total of 27 firings costing 54 shells. 54 is the correct total but it's not attributed correctly to the firing unit.

What do you mean not attributed?

Cheers

For example 23e should only have used 16 shells but is down 34 shells. 17e and 18e have fired with some of the shells from 23e. The shell usage is not correctly recorded against the firing unit.

Might this be due to the "Improved in-stack supply distribution" from the patch?

It appears 3 artilleries have redistributed ammo after the battle. Have you tried launching the battle the following turn. If all 3 artilleries fire, it'll be only cosmetic.

I launched a battle the following turn and results as follows;

23e with 2 ammo did not fire
17e with 36 ammo fired 8 times
18e with 16 ammo fired 8 times

It's only one try so not sure what to make of this. Is artillery being 'pooled' before a battle or shared out afterwards ?

It's only done at the end of battle.

So is this pooling of med and heavy arty ammo WAD?

Thanks

There is only one type of ammos as far as the engine is concerned. I don't know if it answers your question?

From what I now understand, I think this is WAD.
