U-Boot Research - Level 2 ...send to Atlantic

Sat Sep 06, 2014 10:17 pm

The research tooltip says:
Level 2: Long-Range Submarines.
Submarines can be send to the Atlantic Shipping Box...

I don't understand.
At the moment I'm on level 1 and yet I send my U-Boots to the Atlantic shipping box?
So...?
Greetings

So it's erroneous. Level 2 simply means more capable submarines. As you go up the tech level your submarines will become deadlier, but success comes at a cost. There is always the potential to anger a certain big power in the West of the Atlantic (abstraction of the unrestricted submarine warfare). ;)

At level 1 the submarines don't do much damage at all to merchant shipping in the Atlantic, level 2 is when they can start making a difference. Thus the reason for the tooltip indicating level 2 for sending subs to the Atlantic, though granted it could be better worded.

Haven't played beyond 1915 so I don't know much beyond this point...

But at level 2 we still get 'coastal subs' in the building queue with no change in stats. Does this really change after?

For some reason, the only effective subs are the fast 2 element squadrons one has at the beginning - they seem to manage to torpedo stuff. But that may be just my experience, so I don't know...

IRL, 1916-1918 most ships hit by German submarines and German submarines themselves went down in UK coastral waters, esp. in the Channel.

The shipping boxes represent the coastal areas AND the ocean.
