PBEM problems

Sun Sep 27, 2015 8:41 am

Hi, having all sorts of problems trying to get a PBEM going. We start the game and send the files but never get past the first turn. When I try to play out the second turn I get a critical problem message.

It appears there may be a couple of things happening, but one question first. Are you sharing the hosting and sending all files to your opponent or is one of you the host (who receives only the ord file)?

The answer would differ depending on the answer above, but:
1. Are you running the game in administrative mode?
2. Are you both in the same game settings/options?

Thanks for the reply. We both have had a go at hosting, me being the most recent. I start the campaign, send him the turn file then he returns the order file. All go into the save game folder. How do you know if the game is in admin mode? Do all the settings need to be the same. I am playing a three player Rus gold game as a non host and was not requested to confirm to the host settings.

Its just the host player who had to start the game. Once he has the .hst file he have to send that file to the non host player. The non host player now loads that game and gives orders normally. Then save the game. This creates the .ord file of his side. He must send that .ord file to the host player.

Is it the .hst file or his sides turn file that the host sends? Getting confused now. Can someone do me a favor and run through the PBEM procedure for me. I have two other PBEM games going RUS Gold and ALEA JACTA EST with no problems. Thanks.

Look here. If this does not help, ask again.

I think I'm talking about the same game. My opponet has emailed me a .hst file and an .trn file - neither of which show up in my Saved Games when I boot up the game.

I notice that my downloaded files seem to switch back and forth from '.hst' to '.trn'. Are they supposed to do that?

No, no they are not supposed to do that.
A safe play might be to send all files to the host. Try that. Then the host might have some extra files, but will have the needed ones.
