Double message. Maybe this is a result of the evt_nam_GER_Transports_Replacement_Reduction_A event. I don't know enough that I could point out what exactly is wrong

I get two messages (4/5 and 5/5) that a merchant fleet will be constructed, but in fact only one is built, and only 6 replacement points have been deducted:

True. But you have done so much to improve the game in these latest patches. I am grateful, as the game is working better than it ever did, and i have some understanding of how busy you and PhilThib are.

Something is wrong with the script (in CMN General Measures.sct) for the "Improve Education System" decree in Prussia - possibly with all nations ?

I decreed it two turns ago, this turn and the last I received the message (5/5 below) that it has been passed, and even though it is said to be renewable once a year, I could pass it again every turn, if I wished.

The refreshing educational reform is a Prussia only exploit as I have had it with Prussia but my other games the decree has worked as designed.

I found the mistake causing this "Improve Education System" bug.

In the Pride of Nations\VGN\Events\CMN General Measures.sct file, the following passage:

Code: Select all

Conditions
  MinDate = 1850/01/01
  ActorDisabled = $gmaOptionGov;GER_ImproveEducationSystem
  EvalResource = $merMoney;>=;500

Actions
  TurnIndex = 1

has to be replaced with:

Code: Select all

Conditions
  MinDate = 1850/01/01
  ActorDisabled = $gmaOptionGov;GER_ImproveEducationSystem
  EvalResource = $merMoney;>=;500
  TurnIndex = 1

This error only occurs once in this file, for the Prussian "Improve Education System" event.

A small annoyance is that after passing this decree, in the F1 screen the icon for the "Increase Social Protection" decree (the money bag) appears twice. The first icon represents the usual "Increase Social Protection" decree (see the tooltip). The second icon just sits there, without tooltip, and can't be selected. This situation continues unchanged in the next turns. Saving, quitting and reloading the turn doesn't help. Only after I had quit and restarted the game and reloaded the turn, the second icon was gone.

A similar situation, by the way, happens with the "Ban Childrens Work" icon after that decree has been passed. Restarting the game and reloading the turn cleared the screen as well.

This is not a real issue: The replacement parts for Heavy Warships are not forgotten, They appear in the F3 screen as soon as the first Heavy Warship is built.

Two little annoyances with the AI.

A state should declare war on another state only when it can reach it by land (counting passage rights), or has got a transport fleet. In the example below, Hanover declares war on Marocco, because it has got a defensive treaty with Prussia, which is at war with Marocco. The same happened with other minor German states which had got a defensive treaty with Prussia: declaration of war without consequences, after a year the scripted "white peace", next turn renewal of the declaration of war against an unreachable foe ...

And a declaration of war should be realistic. Portugal fighting Great Britain cannot but lose. Maybe a comparison of military power should be done before, and war declared only if the ratio is better than let's say 1:3 - except for rebels.

That system works as intended as it mirrors diplomatic relations at the time. Smaller nations would routinely follow a larger parent nation's course of action. As for Portugal going after Britain. Portugal has an advantage in that they have less space to defend. Don't underestimate them.

That's strange because WON diplomatic code has been used now in PON and comparisons are made.

Good point. the Boers declared war o Great Britain twice, and they won the first war. There was no way they could have reached Britain.

You can also tell yourself that somehow the Portuguese fancy the idea of taking Gibraltar from the British. Or a specific colony... Weirder conflicts happened in history, sometime for absurd causes (and no, Jenkin's ear don't count!)

Thanks, it is relatively easy to be patient if there are only 10 days to wait.

Here is another bug. Two rounds ago, Austria declared war on the Ottoman Empire. Playing Prussia, I have a defensive treaty with Austria since the beginning of the game. However, Prussia (imperialism rating 5, which should be sufficient) still hasn't got a casus belli against the Ottoman Empire:

You have a defensive alliance. You would only get a CB if Ottomans declared war on Austria.

Thanks, that explains it.

I was mislead by the behaviour of all the minor German states with whom I have got a (defensive) allliance, and who don't cease to declare war on my enemy Marocco over and over again. Seems they waste their diplomats once a year to forge a casus belli. And now they start to join in my war on Turkey as well ...

I had scripted a Prussian declaration of war on Turkey, and my auxiliary corps is already on its way through Austria. I will dismiss five of my diplomats per script, to put this diplomatic mess in order.

Two or three rounds ago, Russia accepted a peace offer by the Ottoman Empire, and gained two provinces. This round, the Russian bear has declared war against poor little Turkey again.

Shouldn't there be a period of enforced peace if a treaty is signed ?

Britain has just declared war on Bohemia (message 6/53, diplomatic entries), which is still integral part of Austria, and there are no rebels around.

In the list of nations at war (F9 screen), Bohemia doesn't show up.

They should not, unless there is a mistake in their move type (coastal instead of shallow)

This Turkish 1st River Squadron has got the unit type 5357.

It consists of four elements of model type 5968. This model has got the TemplateUID = $mdl_CMN_RT02 (no modifciation by adding another move type)

Model 4912-CMN_RT02.mdl has got the Move Type = $ShallowMv

So it seems it is not a wrong move type, but the game engine ignoring the move types ?

A lot of missing strings in the F7 screen.

The references to these strings start with TechNaval, TechCom, TechInd, TechSoc and TechArmy.

Here an example - the string is in the middle of the text at the right:

I think they always could. In my AAR I built a river squadron in Italy and sent it to help police my various struggles in West Africa. It maybe that the constraint is against moving in non-coastal waters.

In a way you need some form of 'unrealistic' move as you can rarely build these where they are useful (such as Africa) and need to be able to move them there.

i have been unable to build them in the areas I need them, such as Africa, with its great navigable rivers. I have built them in France on many occasions, and sent them through coastal areas until they reached the river I wanted ot use them on.

By the time they reach Aftica, they are in really bad shape, and need a lot of time to recover.

OK, you wrote "probably" :)

So there is the opportunity to have this fixed in the next fix as well:

April 1857 - suddenly a US admiral appears in Zeeland (Netherlands).

The US have no treaty whatsoever with the Netherlands (nor with Prussia, which is waging war there). So this leader wasn't able to walk there, nor was he allowed to enter the land from the sea.

Something wrong with a script ?
