Colored Militia pictures

Mon Dec 19, 2016 7:44 pm

Hi
Something seems wrong here.
I had some colored militia units that upgraded to line infantry but afterwards their pictures on the various spots seem wrong.
I took some screenshots and as you can see the pictures do not really fit to the term colored.
Is that supposed to be so or an error?

Can you tell me exactly where that unit came from and its makeup, please. I can't find any reference to the '19. Colored Militia' anywhere in the game.

Well some turns back, must have been late 62 or early 63, there was an event that informed me that I could now form colored militia units. I formed some because they aren't bound to a specific state.
I have Siegel in that area and did let him train up many units and also these colored militias.
Maybe militia is the wrong term as it has a single volunteer element.

Okay, I found the event, actually 1 of 2 events, depending on when the scenario starts. If the scenario starts before 1863, evt_nam_USA_ChasseursAfrique1862 gives you the 1st LA 'Chasseur d'Afrique' unit and puts 30 so-called Colored Militia in your unit pool. If the scenario starts after 1/1/1863 evt_nam_USA_ChasseursAfrique_Post1862Scenarios fires and just gives you the 30 so-called Colored Militia in your unit pool.

The Colored Militia are however actually volunteers and basically the same as non-colored volunteers.

The problem arises because the Colored 'Militia' volunteer models upgrade to the same model as the non-colored volunteers. This I think is an oversight, because there is a line infantry model they could upgrade to for "Black Troops". Why it wasn't used I have no idea. Oversight is my guess.

If you mod the 230USAVolunteers.mdl model file changing 'TrainUpg = $mdl_USA_Inf1' to 'TrainUpg = $mdl_USA_Inf7' the "Colored Militia' will upgrade to line infantry "Black Troops" and the issue should be out of the world.

Thanks for the help, I hope this makes it into the current beta.
Can I apply the fixed file on a running game?

Yes, it only applies its affect during turn execution, and only when training up elements, either through Training Officer or the random chance influenced by XP. Elements already upgraded to the wrong model will however not be affected.

Change the TrainUpg line in the model and delete the 'Models.Cached' file. When you start the game again, the 'Models.Cached' file will be generated with the change.
