Here is Major General Godfrey Weitzel (USA). I think someone may have done him before but here is IMHO a better version.

Good job man, feel free to re-do any of mine too, it's no problem, I have just been trying to give people something to play with other than generics. Plus there were a lot of cool generals missing that I know guys have had some fun with since I added them.

I am going to go back and make mine better when I can, but feel free to tackle anything I have already done.

packersfanmw87 wrote:Yeah, I used to use GIMP all the time. Actually I still do some things in GIMP (resizing the finished product for posting, adding the tag...because I'm not exactly sure how to do everything in Photoshop or Illustrator, yet!)

I've got a lot of other b&w photos of these more obscure generals waiting in their own folders to be colorized. Right now, I some colorization of more well-known guys like Joe Johnston, Beauregard, and Hood. Maybe they will be better than the game images.

If I could give you some humble input, you may try to make the unit file have a slightly smaller face while zoomed out just a bit, it looks a little more like the other files and gels with the game better. Of course this is just my personal preference, but I like to keep the unit files at similar sizes otherwise it appears awkward to me. I even changed some vanilla generals like CP Stone to make their heads smaller.

Again this is just my honest input, and I am perfectly fine changing the sizes of your files to look the way I want as your work is great, but I thought you may consider it.

You see there is only a slight difference but in game it can look quite different.

Ok, that is just my 2 cents, carry on with your masterpieces...

I referred to vanilla sizes, but otherwise, I haven't experienced ANY of my creations in-game yet! I'll pay attention to it going forward. Thanks for the feedback! Like I said, haven't been able to judge for myself in-game.

Love your new portraits.

I would like to see remakes of USA generals William Sooy Smith, George Getty and George Crook.

I already did Smith (before I really got much better), but there is little that can be done with him. The source photo is very poor :(

George Getty is a guy I'd like to redo. Noticed him in the game. I have some Crook pictures in my folder. He'll be coming along at some point ;)

Was this the source you used?

I've noticed those 'amber' portraits can be harder to color than the black and white ones

It is easy to turn it black and white first.

I intended to post my templates for fitting a portrait for the game but hadnt allowed for them being transparent panels  They are there though.

I usully resize the finished picture into the relevant box repeatedly until it looks right always starting from the full size version. I generally have the blank faced general alongside as a further guide

I think the most important step in the whole process is the initial cut out of the outline - better to drift into the subject than have a grey surround.

Yeah, always better to cut into the subject than having a lighter surrounding color.

I'll try that Smith. Still not the BEST but I think it is a bigger source than the one I used (which was downright tiny).

Another version of Jacob Cox, 'militarised' I originally thought from 1866 ie just after he mustered out, but on paying more attention it may be a little later, they had quite a powerful light in the studios as well.

Maybe somebody can color this? It seems more from the time period for USA general Jacob D. Cox.

Good idea fudging a "civilian" photo to create a decent photo for him during the war. Its a shame that some of these guys don't have really good quality photographs available from the war.

Colonel George Sharpe should be added to the game. He was head of the first formal US military intelligence gathering service, the Bureau of Military Information (BMI).

Pinkerton was a total joke and gave overly inflated numbers regarding the Rebel forces. Colonel Sharpe and the BMI gave amazingly accurate information, starting with Hooker at Chancellorsville. Its a shame Hooker botched that battle because he should have routed the rebel army.

Pinkerton should spawn with McClellan and then disappear in late 1862, replaced by Colonel Sharpe as a Master Spy, since that is what he and the organization were. Pinkerton does not really deserve the spy status.

Brigadier General Edward Ferrero (USA)

Long time not preparing my colorized photos for use in Civil War 2. I'll try to catch up on a number of generals I've done over the past few months. If you are interested in colorized civil war photos, check out my facebook page. I've been doing quite a few photos of guys already in-game (though maybe you'll find my colorizations an upgrade over the original game portraits.)

Man, y'all have done a lot of great work here! These portraits will add a lot to the game, replacing the "clone army" and all. Thanks for all y'all have done!

Has anyone packed all of these up together?
