Building buildings

I've worked my way through the tutorials and have started my first campaign as the Republicans. A couple of turns in and I have the option to build factories in Madrid, Barceleona etc at great expense for a year or more but the benefits of doing this are not clear. What benefits do I get for building these structures?

You get WS. If the Republican player loses Durango, Reinosa and Mieres he could start to be short of WS.
So you can build war factories. I'm playing a pbem and considering to build some of them in mid-1937.

Thanks for that. That sounds logical. I'll hang off on building any for the time being as I'm not having any problems with WS at the moment.

Fantastic game by the way. I'll be even happier when the first patch comes around and eliminates some of the bugs.
