Brigadier General James Kelley

Fri Oct 22, 2021 5:39 am

This guy, James Kelley, appears in the confederate 1864 generals pool and I have no idea who he is. In all my reading I don't honestly recall having ever come across his name. Even a quick Google search reveals nothing. Does anybody here know his story, or even have a little information?

Hold on, I once did (for my own pleasure) a database of all the generals that appear. My assumption at the time was that he was supposed to be John Kelly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_H._Kelly, even though the name doesn't match completely and he didn't have a major role.

Representation of john Kelley is more likely. Many generals in the game seem to have been included on the basis of name recognition rather than prolonged historical contribution. IIRC, Kelley was one of the youngest generals.

General John Kelly is who I thought they might've meant, but even the bio doesn't match up there. I'm darned if I know...

Going by the bio, this would appear to be an Easter Egg.

The bio reading "James Kelley:- Born on 16 October 1829 in Bailieborough, Ireland- Was dishonorably discharged from the British Army for stealing weapons with the intent of selling them- Emigrated to the Southern U.S. in 1858"

James Kelley was an officer born 16 October *19*29 in Bailieborough and was accused of smuggling weapons to the IRA.

Odd business. I'm wondering how on earth he ended up being included :eyebrow:

Crossed wires with John Kelly perhaps?

I cant place the emigrated in 1858 bit so Im not sure. John of the Irish brigade was 1850.

I dont have an installed copy of acw1 but if someone does Id be curious to see if he makes an appearance.
