Train commanders and support units?

Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:27 am

Just a quick investigation: Does the instructing general of an army really need infantry and additional units of the mounted armed forces (excluding corps connected to this armed force) on their immediate orders, or is it a base camp staff, engineers, surgeons, etc. appropriate? Or would leaving the General Manager with only a few support units result in the General and his group being shattered to pieces?

Welcome!

As you posted, a stack of support units only will just get crushed. The game has a feature called "Marching to the sound of the guns" where a reserve stack may join a battle in progress and shift the result to a victory. This works best in the defense, where any of several Corps stacks may be the target of an attack. So, a well placed Army stack with a good punch may support one of its Corps stacks in battle and pull victory out of the jaws of defeat. Good luck!

Just to complement what Fox said, remember that support units only give a bonus to the stack they are in. Support unit bonuses in the army commander stack don't trickle down to the attached corps stacks. So it's a waste to put support elements in a stack with no combat units to support!

Welcome aboard
