ACW1 or ACW2?

Sat Dec 08, 2018 1:50 pm

I am just finishing a 47 lecture class on the ACW. Needless, to say it got me interested.

Well, I reloaded ACW1 and ACW2. I am assuming ACW2 is the more feature rich game with a better UI.

So, should I just skip ACW1 and start with ACW2?

But I will have to say overall the map graphics of ACW1 (and other graphics) of ACW1 surpassed ACW2. Sandra Duval was truly a gifted artist.

Thanks.

Take both, AACW is in sale for 9,99$

Also check out BoA2 if you like the style of the map in AACW, also loaded with history.

On sale for 4,99$! That is a bargain, you get three wars and several scenarios for that!

So that you can see what has changed in ACW 2, mostly good but also some that should have been included in it also.
I would also call AACW a wargame classic, same as BOA.

Civil War II is the further development of AGEod's American Civil War. About 90% of the rules are identical. Most of the 10% fixes things which desperately needed to be fixed, like the retreat rule.

I have very fond memories of playing AACW, but I cannot see myself ever going back to playing it, but that's just me.

I am often in disagreement with Captain Orso, but on this matter we totally agree. #1 is fun and a very decent game. #2 is the Civil War, with the caveat that the South is so much stronger materially than historically, but CW2 is the very best simulation you will find for a computer game.
