Officers and Generals

Fri Aug 04, 2017 1:58 pm

I rummaged around a bit in savegames today and I found some strange lines; there, all brigades/regiments/batteries of an army were shown in a line, and each unit had one commanding and some sub officers there, like Col. James Jamison for the 2nd MO Brigade, Maj. Reynolds for the 2nd Delaware, Capt. E. McNeal as sub officer for the 3rd Illinois, and Lt. Greene for the 5th Division Artillery. But I can't see all these cool officers in game for some reason? Where are they, does anyone know?
And another thing: How do I see if my Generals are Brigadier-, Major- or Lieutenant-Generals? It's very annoying when I send a bad General to an army with a good General because I want him to take over a division, and then I see he has got a higher rank than the other and is then in command of the army.

Thanks for any help!

In the BattleLog, if you have loose units as you mention in an Army stack, then the report will list the Commander and the Unit Commander in each battle round. Small units like Artillery Batteries might be led by Lieutenants or Captains, Regiments by Colonels and perhaps for game purposes, Brigades too.

The rank icons are somewhat smaller in the latest patch. If you click on a stack and then cursor over the stack on the map, you should get a pop-up menu with the officer's names and by their namesw either three gold stars, one silver or two gold stars.

GF what you are talking about is the leaders in the stack.

What LT is talking about are the so-called FlavorNames. These used to be defined in the element models, and displayed in the element detail window in AACW, but for whatever reason they were forgotten in CW2, and dropped from the model files.

If you find any in game files, they are probably from an event, many of which still generate them.

They were never anything more than what their name describes, flavor.

Not to get too far into the cat memes, but someone pointed out to me recently that cats are proof that the Earth is not flat: if it were they would have already knocked everything off the edge by now....
