Demolitions

Sun Jan 19, 2014 4:07 pm

There doesn't seem to be an option that allows a player - particularly useful for CSA - to demolish or at least have a percentage chance of demolishing developments (new or at start) in cities being abandoned to the enemy. Plunder is available but as far as I can see it doesn't actually remove any structures. I'd like to see this introduced as an additional regional decision card - with perhaps the percentage possibility increased through the presence for the defender of larger forces or specialised troops (cavalry/partisans?) and/or Generals with certain special abilities.

A similar opportunity to destroy supply centres in cities would also be useful.

Troops can destroy depot's. Also there is a scorched earth regional decision.
I might not do exactly what you want.
Maybe it's not added because that didn't take place historically or not that often?
However, it would be interesting if you could burn the city before retreating.
Then the other side would have to rebuild it if it would have any kind of use.
But the rebuilding is not in the game so that might be a limiting factor

Thanks I meant scorched earth when I wrongly wrote plunder.

I believe there were occasions when CSA forces tried to destroy facilities and supplies - not always successfully hence the percentage idea. Of course the Union when attacking did the same, Sherman's demolition jobs at Meridian and Atlanta come to mind but maybe that's better dealt with as a General special ability function and he may already have that.

Good point about rebuilding but that can be done simply by new build developments.

You cannot destroy city structures, other than Depots and maybe Forts. But Powder Mills, Arsenals, Shipyards, etc.....those are all indestructable

I get your point, Sherman didn't occpy Atlanta long-term, he destroyed anything usable and moved on

IRL, I can imagine that it wasn't too difficult to destroy a Powder Mill. The trick was to be at a bit of a distance......

Yes an option where with scorched earth you can at least burn down a structure would be nice. Some should be possible to repair, others not (i.e. a port can't be destroyed but a sawmill can be set on fire and completely destroyed).
