Gaining Military control

Sun Aug 16, 2015 12:26 pm

What is the best way to gain military control in a area before a attack so you can just move in without having to attack while moving in.

The whole point of a stack automatically changing to OP when entering a region the enemy controls 100% is that you have to fight to gain control.

If anybody knows of a "trick" to get around this, please post it, because it would be breaking the game.

In considering control I tend to think of the two types of control, military control and loyalty. Often in the border regions, one side will have military control while the other possesses the loyalty of the region. In these mixed control regions you can take more risks with the movement of units as the region quickly passes into your control.

There really is no way to enter a hostile region without shifting into attack posture. You can minimize the consequences of entering a hostile region by selecting the avoid combat option or by timing your movement to arrive day 14 or 15. Of course if you already have some sort of force in the area you simply plot your move to join that force.

Absent the above, enter with overwhelming force so you gain military control in a single turn.

In a test I did, Grant moved into Manassas in Offensive Posture/Conservative Attack (Orange/Blue):

No attack took place, Beauregard withdrew. With no loyalty or MC, Grant was entrenched to level two. I switched Grant to Orange/Orange:

The next turn Jackson also withdrew without a fight and I had the force inside Manassas under siege.
