I see that the Germans have completed an automobile factory. When were you able to research autos?

I don't recall exactly, but I believe Jan 1880 opened the tech, researched it and then had to build the factories.

I ask, as I can't even see the tech at this point. So there are different dates for different nations for the same tech.

Definitly event driven and not fixed. I played the Ottomans several times now at least for the first decades and there was not one game with same tech starting dates on many techs. There maybe other factors like probabilzy for certain techs to spawn for certain nations. Or how many have developed a tech alreeady.

Do you have the "Electrification" and "Early Mass Production of Autos" researched yet? If so, that opens up the "Automobile Industry" tech that has a minimum available date of Jan 1880.

I currently only have 2 techs that are not 100%. One is Sugar Beet Diffusion (can't research that until after Sugar Nobilization - old bug), and Armored Cruisers (or early armored cruisers or something like that). I think I am missing one of the event techs (like spark plug or something). I am not at the game, so don't remember if I have both of those, but if I don't, I can't research either of them yet.

Must be an event driven thing.

Brazil is 2nd in tech. A little left on one tech that was not funded. Just started armored cruisers. An auto plant is under construction.

News wise - Brazil has no prospector units, but I see an occasional prospection report on a site being discovered. I can build blind in cities in the brown terra incognita, and get reports of social unrest (they feel ignored, even loot) but remain shrouded.

I see the Congo Conference reported, and a brief look at the Congo shows the events flipping some buildings to Belgium. Since it is foreseeable that the player, if not some other power, will venture into the Congo, not having a pre-condition for the event is problematic.

Did nemethand give up Russia or has he just been away lately? Not sure how to handle the Austro-Russian crisis if it's against the pc and not him.

I've missed some turns myself lately due to a heavy work schedule, but seems like we're generallygetting quite short of players. Should we try to advertise for some new players for the leaderless nations?

Phillippe showed interest in leading Japan. But advertising might be a good idea to get Spain and the US covered. As you managed to tie Italy so closely to Austria, contractwise, it might be ideal for a novice.

Speaking of the Congo. I remember the Boernes wanted to have colonial decisions and units being unlocked for Sweden. I wanted a discussion back then but that discussion never caught on. Now I think that, given the minimum interest in that question, Sweden can well have those things unlocked. However, then I think that every nation should get them.

Late February 1884... I would like to get more players involved. Maybe PhillT will take Japan, it needs an aggressive player.

I thought Nemethand was at least monitoring the game, if not submitting orders every turn. The AI should handle the crisis cards at least.

Does anyone have a copy of the AI contentment increase script? We may need to bring that back as several areas are lost causes. Switzerland is 100% shut down, as is Uruguay, and most of Central America. These regions probably need a contentment boost, as the entire country is now shut down (I think this should be done for the minor countries under AI management).

Anyone have any thoughts against?

In regards to Brazil's problem. There are several areas of colonial Britain that I can't explore. There is 1 area in Australia, and 1 in Canada, as well as the 1 in northern South America (I think these are all related to the non-national problem with 1.03). I think we should force those areas to be explored, but am open to other people's thoughts. There is currently no way for me to explore those areas, and I believe that I am not the only one.

No objection against forced solution in neither case.

I forgot to mention earlier... I will be traveling over the next week starting tomorrow, so I might be late processing the turn or may even miss a day altogether. Hopefully, someone else can step up and take care of it if I cannot get to it in time.

I will be out of town for a few days starting Friday. Most likely OE and Italy won't receive turns.
