Crash main menu/ CheckAdvancedRevolts bug

Mon Aug 04, 2014 6:47 pm

Hello, I've had several times crashes to main menu since the mid-1850s (playing France).

Last one's log was specifically tied to an error during the "check advanced revolts" phase,
with an access violation.

Other logs seemed clear.

I followed the advice given in other posts, and reloaded the previous turn, and it has worked until now (so I'm only giving
this log for info). Hope that was the good place to post, cheers!

Same exact bug, again since I'm checking, 11 turns later (I've put on the "error logs" in system options, but do not know if they send it to you automatically or if I have to paste them here).

Welcome to the forums Tazmaniacs. Sorry to hear about this problem. You will need to post things here (nothing is sent automatically about errors).

Thk for warm response ; this bug still allows playing, you just needed either to reload or to rewind to the precedent turn (depends...). It is happening quite a bit, though, so I'll try posting in this thread the occurences.

Another question I have is, since this bug is about "check advanced revolts", does it have anything to do with Lyon & another city being completely bloqued by strikes since some time ? Or is it normal for strikes to continue on a long time (I've understood that there is nothing to do except waiting) ?

[edit ; I am registered in Paradox's forums, but can't find where to register there PON in order to be able to post over there ; it seems however that here is the place for bug reports].

Same at turn 2614... I'll stop here the list, and will just post again if... this crash-menu bug stops.

Hi sorry to hear about this, not sure I can help you with the bug but yes, France up to 1870 has a regular militancy problem (one suspects the Second Empire wasn't universally respected?).

As to Paradox, they no longer support PoN (or any AGEOD games) so you are best off over here (I think they deleted all the main PoN material a while back).

For the Lyon problem - send in the military police and/or cavalry -- over time that will encourage the ungrateful wretches to go back to work for the Emperor
AJE The Hero, The Traitor and The Barbarian
PoN Manufacturing Italy; A clear bright sun
RoP The Mightiest Empires Fall
WIA Burning down the Houses; Wars in America; The Tea Wars

It's not a quick fix. It may take years for them to be productive again.

[QU - JIM : It's not a quick fix. It may take years for them to be productive again. ]

More or less what I suspected reading a bit around (especially that joke about nobody knowing why strikes happen in France)... Not sure it is so "historically realistic", but fun anyway (a quick browse through the event files gave me the Carmaux strikes, which I'm waiting for, and a strange "journalist assassination" in 1914... let me guess? Tintin ?!)

Anyway, you & Jim did give the strongest answer I've had in my quick read of the forums: bring in the police, and wait... [Probably should be written clear in some guide : no cops, no work... ]

About Paradox, they do still have a couple of posts, but they disabled the bug file.

Returning to games, and (real) history, I do have to wonder why the colonization process starts so early everywhere. Eg, for France, Algeria, OK, but the rest? Why not wait like the 1860s, or later, before making France being able to play colonial cards ? Perhaps that would make early turns boring, but it does impact a lot, IMO, on the "realistic" feel that PON wants to convey.

A great game, as you see by my (small) gruntling. Cheers & saluts !

PS: I'm just posting the bug here for report, as I said, it just makes me do the turn again (for the time being - I'm only in the late 1850s), no big deal.

Just to inform, after a lot of continued crashes to main menu, with the same bug, it stopped all of a sudden. I am now in 1868 or something and it's been years without that bug.
