Somebody ever won with Otho in "The Year of the 4 emperors"? Or is it imposssible?

The times I have gone further, I have stopped Vitellus, the blue player from Gallia, annexed Macer and finally more or less could defend from Vespasian, the red player.

I kept almost all the time my victory points at máximum, but the vespasians too and I cannot take them to make them win less points because they are stronger tan me. Or get VPs from battles. It's difficult enough not to lose them while stopping them.

When I finally can retailate in strength it's almost the last turn.

If you manage to hold Rome and Italy as Otho you should consider yourself victorious. The end game victory screen results are messed up anyway.

Actually I just won it last night as Otho by about 200 victory points. First time to ever win it. Although I was playing the AI. And as Otho, I lucked up and assassinated Macer on turn 1 and so got Africa. I also managed to kill off Vitellius about 8 turns before the end of the game. Vespasian only showed up in Northern Italian in the last 6-8 turns of the game after taking Ponnonia and Dalmacia. It also seemed Vespasian was really getting a lot of VPs each turn. It is a very, very difficult scenario. Otho has very few troops but fortunately only faces Vitellius for most of the game. Also hard for Otho to keep up with Vespasian VPs. Against humans, I suspect Otho would just be a speedbump. I will see if I can get a screen shot of end game later.

The problem in the scenario is the AI controlling Vespasianus. I feel that it just can't handle taking out the Jews at first and then mounting a serious offensive against whoever holds Rome. It's a similar situation in the original Severus scenario, playing any other Romans besides Severus will mess things up as the AI takes ages to reach and take Rome. Same with Marius vs. Sulla, the AI seemingly can't handle controlling Sulla.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

I always play against AI.

And according to other posts here, you can win more by luck tan anything else. Many times I inherit Africa, with hte tactic of using my chance to assasinate in the second or third turn, when the defender has already used his ability...

.. but then, even though I ship the 2 legions to Italy, I have to face both of them, one in the Alps and the other in Venecia region, with less tropos tan any of them.

It seems unless you chase their leader which is almost imposible, or you hit him by luck, you simply cannot do it.

Even if you manage to kick back the blue player and take some strategic cities from the red one (whou always leads the VPs), it's usually too late and too few to make the difference.

This is the only faction and scenario I have not been able to win.

Thanks for the replies.

You really should try PBEM, it's much more interesting and challenging!
