I think it works like this:
Gold star --> Objective city
Silver star --> Strategic city

In "the Caesar against Partians scenario" I have smashed the partians and I have conquered all of their cities but in the end I have achieved only a minor victory :( , why ?

Just re-read the post that started this thread and what he may be describing is a situation where the shift key is being pressed.

I've had a few crashes with the engine, not frequent enough to get worked up over it, but what I have noticed is that each time it happened music was not disabled and I had pressed the shift key for a very long time because I was trying to read (and think about) the details of a provincial decision.

It doesn't happen to me very often because I've learned to avoid holding down the shift key for more than a few seconds when I'm in decision mode, but I think there is a weakness in the engine that can come into play if you try to read the detail of all the decisions slowly by pressing the shift key. One of the reasons you keep the key pressed for a long time is that you go down the list of pre-requisites and effects of a decision and keep going back to the province in question to see if and to what extent they apply.

I haven't kept track because I've learned to avoid the behavior, but I think I've seen this in BOR and AJE, and I was using the latest beta patch.

If i remember right, Franciscus explained somewhere that major victories were reserved to "sudden death" victories archived before scenario end because of you getting above your NM level or the enemy below the NM level of sudden death (usually +175 or less 25 NM).
The normal victory because of victory points and objectives at scenario end are Minor Victories

I guess it's hard being Caesar... anything but "veni, vidi, vinci" is seen as a Minor victory ;)

Yes, but some clarifications:

- major victories or defeats are achieved when one side goes up or down a preset NM value (175/25)

- this is declared either: as soon as the cutoff is reached (if sudden death is ON) or at end of scenario (if sudden death OFF)

Can't check now if sudden death is On in Caesar's scenario.

Of course, all this is arbitrary.... :)

In my opinion, just discard the end game screen altogether.

For example, in scenarios where the Romans absolutely destroyed their opponent historically and have a vastly superior army but you as their opponent manage to hold out very well, lose only very few or no ground and then lose because of a small VP difference - I just don't think that deserves the result "minor victory".

So, as Franciscus said, the victory screen is so arbitrary, it is only useful for the often interesting text :w00t:

I have played the Marius vs Sulla scenario lots of times, but when I arrive at year 85-84 BC the game crashes :( (this thing is happening every time in this scenario).

PS the Dardan Peace has no text, it's a bug ?

Can you post a saved game just before it crashes ?

Also, if possible, with the problem about the Dardanos peace text ? - or at least a screenshot ? And which faction are you playing ?

Thanks

Hi

In your saved game you have a problem already reported: your hst file has zero bytes size, and that is the cause of the crash. This is usually caused by either your antivirus/malware software scanning this file when it is generated or by the UAC feature of Windows.

What we usually recommend is that you:
- exempt all your game folders from your antivirus scanning (this varies, depending on which antivirus you use)
- turn UAC OFF

Anyhow, you can use your backup1 files (they are good), and continue the game from that previous turn

As to the Dardanos peace offer, I indeed discovered a problem that is causing the multichoice screen to appear empty. Strange thing, I was almost 100% sure this was solved months ago.
Anyhow, I think I fixed it now, will be on patch 1.03c official

Thanks for reporting

UAC is a windows thing, not a game option.
Just do a search on google with "turn off UAC" and your windows version and you will find plenty of tutorials
I'm on Windows XP still, so fortunately i don't have any UAC to turn off! ;)

Hi

In that case, no idea, sorry. You do not have any antivirus or antimalware software ? Not even Microsoft Security Essentials or Defender, that come with Windows ?

Have you tried what Franciscus proposed above?? restore the previous turn on the load game screen (with Home key) and keep on going with the game.
You will have to redo the corrupted turn, but you will be able to keep on playing.
If after doing this the game keeps on corrupting on the same turn then i'm out of ideas :bonk:

Anyway, it's a problem that there have been for ages, since I have bought the game in December 2012, but only in this scenario, in the "Caesar against Pompeius" and The third Mithridatic War (but less frequent).
