RUS GUI Overhaul Sneak Peek - Armoured Cars!

Mon Nov 04, 2013 5:29 pm

I'm currently working on a graphical user interface mod for RUS, and I was planning on keeping things hush-hush until it's finalized (which may take a while as I'm a perfectionist), but I was so pleased with how these armoured cars turned out that I wanted to share them with all of you...

The rest of the mod will consist of more subtle changes, but I may make some more unit portraits in a similar style for the armoured trains. It may look like they took a lot of work but it was actually rather easy to do using layers and filters - I used good quality period photographs, cut out the vehicles, desaturated the image, applied a "cutout" poster style filter, separated the wheels and undercarriage into their own layer, then fiddled with the colour balance/vibrance/contrast etc. to taste, sharpened the edges, resized and then sharpened and retouched as needed.

If you unzip the following archive into your game's main directory, it should replace the files automatically - it is highly recommended that you keep backup copies of the original files!

Thanks guys! I will likely tweak them a bit more before the final version is released. I like the Austin (right) better than the Rolls Royce (left) - my guess is the Rolls would be relatively rare even for the White factions so I might change the markings for the Austin armoured car as an optional graphic for the Whites as I believe it was the most common model used on both sides.

Thanks Baris =)

The manufacturer disclaims any and all liability for losses incurred as a result of overspending on snazzy-looking armoured cars.

A reminder for a huge mod "what-if No Brest-Litovsk Treaty":
the belgium AutoCanonMitrailleuse armored cars

(from RusBeta forum, from Cat Lord friend on Ageod WW1 game)
http://www.philatelicdatabase.com/postal-history/wwi-belgium-armoured-car-division-in-russia/
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_Expeditionary_Corps_in_Russia
With the Revolution early 1917, the Czar abdicated. Karenski advocated a new offensive in which the belgian AutoCanonMitrailleuse partook. From July 1917 the collapse of the Russian army spread, but the ACM kept fighting for the White Russians as long as they could.
After the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, the Belgian force remained in Russia until the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
withdrew Russia from the war. After the ceasefire, the unit found itself in hostile territory. As the route north to Murmansk was blocked, the soldiers destroyed their armoured cars to prevent their capture by Bolshevik forces. The unit finally reached the United States through China and the Trans-Siberian railway in June 1918.
