What about the "greens" ?

Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:18 am

Recent works of historians about the civil war focused on the action of «*greens*» in Russian countryside. The «*greens*» were huge masses of peasants in revolt against civil power and authorities, «*red*» or «*withes*», causing great troubles and disorganizing completely the economy. The main goal of this rural insurrections was the autonomy of rural communities.

So in a war game, it should be perhaps a nonsense to establish units of «*greens*», but perhaps zones affected by greens disorders should have a low level of loyalty and supply for both withes and reds, and causing some damages to production and moral in cities causing by anarchy and lack of supplies for civilians (in addition to famines, revolts, etc).

To suppress the greens, application of harsh measures («*red*» or «*white*» terror) by army units in rebel zones should be determinant, with installation of cheka or presence of leaders in urban center : cheka in particular, once established in a city, rather than combat capacities should have the ability to suppress rebellions and to obtain supply by plunder in zones around the cities, with the risk of revolts and recruits for the withes, Makhno, etc.

I read something on this forum in regards to "green" if I remember correctly it works somewhat in manner described you, perhaps differently. I can't be certain for sure, but have read it somewhere, unless I dream about it.

The Greens are un unplayable faction in the game.

Basically there is a screen to take regional decisions in area you have military control, like Requisition to get more $ or Forced Conscription to get more men.

This decreases the region's loyalty towards you in favour of the Green faction. If the loyalty to the Green faction is too high, there is a risk Green revolters appears.

They are not strong units, but they will nevertheless take military control of the area they are in, which means they will destroy railways and cause havoc in your supply lines.

You can suppress them by sending military units, particularly regiment of Checkha soldiers, which have a hig "Police" value.

Or you can apply a "Chekha" regional decision to increase loyalty towards you in an area, to reduce the Green loyalty (of course you cannot do that at the same time as the Requisition / Forced conscription), but this has a cost (it decreases your generated manpower pool, to reflect the effect of harsh repression - The Red Terror). Another way is to effectively use a Regional Decision to apply reforms (a bit like the NEP), but this has another cost.

OFTOP a bit, but speaking of the Checkha is the 31 august 1918 attack on British embassy in Petrograd event in game? It uncovered many British and other nations agents working to suppress Bolsheviks, and killed Francis Cromie, who was sent because he suppressed Boxer rebellion in China. Very interesting story.
