Problem on high DPI system.

Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:54 pm

I am trying to run the demo on Windows 7 64 bit.

If I just run it as installed the game runs but the game window is under the windows taskbar (which I have on the right of my display) which makes it impossible to advance to a new turn.

If I change the compatibility settings and check the disable display scaling on on high DPI settings then I don't get the taskbar on top of the window, however all the text looks to be too large - most noticeable is the text in the 1st tutorial extends off the right of the window for it. The game is running at a higher resolution - the unit window doesn't go as far across the display and there are black borders on either side of the menu screen - the one with new game.

My display is 2560x1600 with fonts set at 150% - 144 DPI.

This is indeed an engine limitation, it works with 96 DPI for fonts. There is a work around though, which would be to reduce the size of the fonts used in proportion to your DPI settings, e.g reduce them by a third, as you have increased them by 50%. You should go to Rise of Prussia\ROP\GameData, there you will find Fonts.ini, open it with notepad. You should see

// Font #0
{Font}
Verdana

8
0
0
{/Font}

etc.

Here the font size is 8, change it to 5 or 6 and do the same operation (reducing by a third) for all fonts used, save and launch the game. Hopefully it will help. But true, the engine was not mean to support others DPI than the standard one, sorry.

EDIT: Woops, in English too: You may have to edit with notepad the 1600 and 900 in the Display file to fit a downgraded resolution (my monitor is natural 1920*1080) of your screen, so as the 144dpi fonts are better read.
