Rise of Prussia - Frederick Rex 1756-1763

Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:50 pm

Rise of Prussia (Fredericus Rex 1756-1763)

is the new game from AGEOD, following the successful historical strategy videogames
Birth of America, AGEOD's American Civil War, Napoleon's Campaigns and Wars in America 1750-1815.
Rise of Prussia covers the Seven Years War (1757-1763) in Europe.

The game enjoys ALL the features and improvements of previous AGEOD games, in addition to
a wealth of new features that will be revealed between now and the release of the game.

Need examples ?

Brand new system of Construction of Units, allowing players to choose and purchase their forces as they wish (or can afford) during the annual and grand campaigns.

New system of historical events, allowing
multiple choices events and answers, hereby enhancing flexibility and re-playability.

Historical Background:
The Seven Years War was the first global conflict. It had two main fronts :
 • The first, in Europe, centering on the hostility between Prussia and Austria (still simmering after the War of the Austrian Succession) expanded through alliances to include all of Europe.
 • The second front involved the colonial rivalries between Britain, France and Spain, known in America as the French and Indian War (Cf. Wars in America©).
The Seven Years War started with a flurry of diplomatic activity which resulted in a diplomatic revolution and the reversal of the alliances of the War of the Austrian Succession.

First Britain and Prussia formed an alliance (January 1756), followed by France and Austria, who had previously been traditional enemies. The fighting started with Frederick II of Prussia's invasion and defeat of Saxony (August-October 1756), although the main European conflict did not start until the following year.

Global fronts?

Fri Apr 24, 2009 4:13 pm

America is mentioned as a second main front; will there be any coverage of the fighting in Asia or Africa, but especially India?

Note that the reference to North America is in the "historical background"-section.

The North American part of the Seven Years's War is extensively covered in WIA :)

Thanks for the news :w00t:

I have some questions though:

So finally the War of the Austrian Succession will not be covered in this game?

The map and the interface are the definitive ones or alpha? The map is different of NCP's. In the minimap I cannot recognize Europe, so cannot tell. Then will it be only central and east Europe? Or will it be possible some operations in the mediterranean like French expedition against Minorca or in the atlantic like the British raid on Rochefort

Multiple choices events sound very interesting.

Construction of Units and Grand campaign included, so sure a success :D

Wonderful! One of my dreams are fulfilled. I can't wait to lead the Prussians through their most difficult time. I love stories about Frederick the Great since the time I was 10 years old as I got the first time a book about the "Old Fritz" in my hands.
The map looks promising...
Now I have two games I am awaiting: VGN and ROP...Wonderful! Magnifique!

greetings

Hohenlohe, who is totally happy... :coeurs: :D

Map is limited to Eastern edge of France to Western edge of Russia, Northern edge of Austria to the Southern tip of Scandanavia.

Scenarios are still being developed ;)

Oh... I guess it would have added a lot of strategic possibilities

Well, the name of the game always was Rise of Prussia and Frederick the Great, not the Seven Years War in Europe ;)

Hi Beren

Hok talked about full campaign and construction of units, what have always been the strong points and weak points of AACW and NCP respectively ;)

Are the regions in the map smaller than in NCP? a map crowded with units was a general complain in NCP
As for scenarios, from the experience of ACW, I would suggest to center efforts on the Grand Campaign, as everybody seems to play it almost exclusively.

Mileage varies on this, but that grand campaigns are popular and widely played is beyond doubt :)

Another question, in NCP there was a constant problem with the size of units, as sometimes regiments were taken as a base unit, and other times entire brigades, I think it would be better to have a common minimum unit for all the armies, probably Battalion for infantry and regiment for cavalry, as armies were considerably smaller.

What about the command system? There were no Corps at the time, and "divisions" whatever the name were only temporary commands.

Finally, what are the historical sources you are using? I am concerned you could be using dated material that is usually terribly pro-Frederick, so that the size of the armies opposed to the Prussians are greatly exagerated, for instance I recall when I was designing the Leuthen scenario battle for Horse & Musket that the size for the Austrian army used for previous ames was around 85.000, a number extracted directly from Frederick memoirs, I checked more recent works (as well as a contemporary Austrian OOB) and found that the army (including the allies) was around 52.000-54.000. If you take the old numbers you would need to give Frederick and the Prussians some very special abilities to give them a chance of victory, and we could end with the same problem as in NCP, in which French armies are unstoppable in most scenarios.

All those concerns mean, of course, I am eagerly awaiting the release of the game!

Aryaman,

I can answer just a couple of things...
Checking the little screen above and comparing it with the NCP map, it shows each NCP area is 2-3 areas on RoP
The problem of differences on units sizes has been considered and taken care of

tc237,

Would the game map allow to mod the War of Austrian Succession?

At last, a computer equivalent to SPI's Frederick the Great boardgame, I hope!

There is a new command system (yes, another one!) done for ROP, which is simpler than AACW but more complex than the WIA one. :)

This is genuinely exciting.

I have just been reading the ACW AGEOD forum and I am astounded at the fan support base love of the game. I enjoyed the Birth of America game and the WW1 game when finished properly (and its looking good) will set a milestone.

With the rise of prussia and the vain glory of nations things are really looking up in the future for AGEOD.

Congratulations and good luck,.

Great news, waiting a demo

I think the "new" command system could be a divisional system, you made your division with a commander and then it works as a WIA regiment unit, an army is a stack of divisions no???

At least ROP isnt a NPC :mdr:

PD: maps looks fine, a mixture between AACW/WIA and NPC.
