High Taxes!?

Thu Mar 07, 2013 4:44 pm

I am playing France and it is 1860. Over the last two years my contentment has been dropping like a rock even though I am trying to purchase enough of everything. Strangely, my militancy seems rather low, in the 20s and 30s. I have also used up all of the social improvements. But, the strangest thing is that I have lowered my taxes to 1% tariff and 1% maritime, 0% for everything else and I am still getting notifications that satisfaction is dropping in provinces "due to high taxes." What is going on here?

are you at war? That can lower contentment. It could be events (these are scripted, and the player has no control over them). Good news is most of that the social improvements come back, and can be played again about 1 year after they were used the 1st time.

You need to have MPs in the worst areas. I find that luxuries give the highest contentment boosts.

It is hard to determine what is happening without a screenshot at least.

No, I'm not at war. I am #2 in prestige, NM of 100, I am selling 267 out of 267 food, 213 out of 213 of common goods and 49 out of 142 luxury although there are not enough luxury goods available on the market. My current overall contentment is 22%.

What do you need a screenshot of?

Let's see your F4 screen. Also, how much does your contentment increase from sales to your nation each turn? (it is listed in the messages you see).

If we ever get a Pon 2, it's the economic model I'd love to see over hauled.
If X nation produces 50 wood, no coal , no wheat, but 50 fish and 50 meat, needs 100 food then I expect the nation to cook that food and eat it on wood fires. It's history and accurate. Only from the previous century have us plebs been given a choice.
