Philippe(s), great news! :w00t:

First and foremost I ask you to check on every event script of the Grand Campaign, including those of semi-scripted nations (China, Spain, etc) to be sure everything works as designed. It is paramount to NOT have glitches as the Garibaldi chain of events.

Second, if you add more content, please add the following features which you already previewed in the v1.02 Manual and I presume you've already worked on your mind:

  • Election information screen (page 29)
  • Ability to give/receive loans (page 100)
  • Third-party participation and mediation in a crisis, including correct attribution of prestige (page 153)

Third, bug killing! Whatever moves... :p
  • No more diplomacy interface glitches where you can't cancel a treaty. Just had an incident in our multiplayer game.
  • Local support should give a CB and/or a Crisis if not respected.
  • See every unit if it has been categorized correctly, including its stats, ability to upgrade, etc.
  • Ability for every nation (bar the tribals) to create some sort of primordial fleet (merchant, transport, war). We need this for our MP and some nations unrealistically can't build anything.
  • Check out the trading areas for some nations that are not landlocked (Persia) but still can't trade independently. I know this might be WAD but sometimes it gives strange results. When Moscow becomes the capital of Russia, this faction loses its ability to trade!!

Fourth, I would love to see a tutorial of how to write complex events, including pop-up ones with choices and sale of equipment.

Fifth and last, a 1880 campaign and if you feel too confident a 1910 one as well!

---

As a side note, I urge you both Philippes to pay a visit now and then (I know Pocus does it already!) to the Multiplayer section of the Paradox forums of the game... we've made PON's multiplayer an epic 20-nation experience!

I would LOVE to see that as an expansion or dlc!

Once the base game is patched up, I am sure a LOT of people are willing to pay for especially an 1880 expansion.

Excellent news! Have just encountered the dreaded and nasty Loyalty Bug for the first time so hopefully there's a fix in the future.

Something else. Consider decreasing the colonial actions since the beginning. Otherwise you reach a point where half of Africa is already explored and colonized by the end of the 50s and Great Britain has declared some 8 dominions. Grossly unrealistic.

Take a look at our own adjustments. And we still correct them as the game goes on.

Don't forget the weird F10 screen bug, where mousing over other nations gives your rankings (introduced in 1.02d I believe).

or that F10 doesn't bring up the F10 screen - you also need to click on the screen (this might be specific to running in a window)

Also if you DoW with a temporary CB (from a DP) it is cancelled and a prestige penalty is applied - so you get penalised for honouring the pact.
If you have a CB against a nation and get a one from a DP the DP one isn't added - so you suffer no prestige penalty if you don't honour it.
If you are supporting a nation that gets DoW you suffer an immediate prestige penalty, but can't do anything about it (no CB). As it stands supporting a nation actually encourages other nations to DoW it as it hurts the supporting nation at no risk of a response.

You may also consider including NAP (non-agression pact) among the various treaties, which can be concluded in game.

In our MP game, we (at least I) have concluded quite some, obviuosly, out of the game.

I also believe that in the given timeframe, it was quite common to conclude NAPs to ensure the neutrality of the nations towards each other.

By the way... one of the most unsung successes of this game in my view is the astonishing robustness of the AGE engine regarding multiplayer. When the game was announced and after its release, it officially supported max 8 nations as playable.

Well, through the remarkable adaptability of the engine through commands we have managed to reach 24 nations playable with almost 20 unique players. This adds A LOT to the value of the game and makes the lack of scripted events for the minor (secondary) nations a detail.

What about waiting for everybody? I sometimes play TBS games and waiting even for 1 other player kills me. Can't imagine why anybody will want to play even with 7 other persons.

There are some advantages to this. First of all, the whole experience instantly becomes more precious. Since we have human players all over the globe (from California through Europe to Japan) we keep a strict one-turn-per-day regime. There is much time to think about strategy and enjoy the various moments as they unfold. You even "bond" with your avatar nation.

The not so obvious advantage is that the game becomes pretty much an everyday pastime. It's like pouring water on your plants and seeing them grow. It needs patience, but the end result is fantastic as no AI in any contemporary war game is as advanced as the human mind in assets development, scheming, and tactics.

I don't complain. I can play other AGEOD games or titles from different software houses, but know that every evening CET, I have to submit orders and process the turn for our 24-nation extravaganza! :w00t:
