Spelling Errors

Make a new thread here, call it "Spelling Errors", and be the first to fire

...so:

Manual page 12, \Data\Dictionary\ExternalStringsFR.txr and \Data\Dictionary\ExternalStringsUK.txr have misspelled the name of the fortress city Przemysl (is Przesmyl).

edit: In data files (for example \Data\DB\Maps\GrandCampaign\MapAreas.csv etc.) it is Prezmyl (yet another bad spelling).

I guess I will find more when it will be finally able to run the game, checking through various files is not that easy. I found this one by reading the manual

BTW, I dont want to clutter the topic, but do you know if there is anything worth to see in Przemysl nowadays? Remnants of the fort or anything? I live in Hungary, and could get there if I wanted to.

This is not a spelling error at all. In different languages places are spelled differently Przemysl is a pretty common English language spelling of the Polish city of Przesmyl.

In Poland we call it Przemysl. I don't know what is the name of the city in Ukraine, but to me it looks like "Przesmyl" is spelling error.

I though this may be your idea and I have no problem with that. In any case Przesmyl and Prezmyl is wrong in any language

About map provided by Nikel - nice source. One have to be very careful with the names on old maps. I always wonder how many of the spelling oddites were caused by the cartographers making the map and misspeling the names of cities they visited and how many were named really so (like Zamosc - Zamosk etc).

Usually less important cities were not renamed, only the bigger ones (Krakau, Lemberg) especially in the more tolerant empire of A-H

One can find German name for Przemysl: Premslau and Prömsel but I don't know who invented them? Maybe Nazi Germans (then it will be to early for WW1)? So I didn't propose them.

I installed the game in French yet the units have English names (like "Russian 2nd Army HQ")...
Is that normal ? Why don't they have unlocalized historical names in their own language ie Armée Française/ Deustche Armee/ English Army etc .. ?

I had a look, I already have a lot of csv files in DB directory, I think it's those ones

Confirm if I can put some punctuation, accents and so on in the armies names (like "XI.Armee" for german countries).

I'd start with the simple tutos and small scens, everyone should start with them...
But I don't know how the Turks and Serbs called their armies

Yes, these are the files. But better use the XLS version of the files that you can find (all of them) in the [color="DarkRed"]Modding[/color] folder of the game

Just had a look at the main map and noticed Poole is spelt Pool on it. Apart from that can't see any other mistakes for the British names.

Ammunitions on the top bar should be ammunition (or munitions?)

Also surprised to see just a blank screen when loading the game until ESC is pressed. Game looks very nice.

Playing the 2 player GC. The British navy has two battleships (B) named 'Ducan' and 'Brittania'. These ships' names should be spelled 'Duncan' and 'Britannia' respectively.

I noticed some misspellings in the Dutch area (Netherlands) on the map.

The Province of "Wolle" should be Zwolle

"Arnheim" should be Arnhem, Arnheim being the german spelling, but definately not the native one.

"Hengeh", should most likely be Hengelo.
Hengeh doesnt exist.

The province north of Amsterdam should be called either Den Helder or Haarlem, in stead of Texel. Texel is an island and very sparsely populated (especially at that time in History).

I dont know if these suggestons are appreciated, but thought to add them anyway.

And the last one "La Hague" should be The Hague (english) or Den Haag (Dutch).

Some problems for Belgium, sometimes we find french names, german names etc...[often for the flemish part of the country...]

On the map -> the correct name

Vlandern - Vlaanderen
Antwerp - Antwerpen [Antwerp=the city, Antwerpen=the province, in French: Anvers]
Mecheline [?] - Mechelen [in French: Malines]
Ghent- Gent [in French: Gand]
Ostende- Oostend
Alost- Aalst
Louvain - Leuven
