josh4bs decided to "step aside".

Good game, josh. You made my first PBEM game an enjoyable experience (even with the butt whuppin' you gave me in the first round). Thank you.

To refresh memories,

josh beat me soundly in the first game; but here are the stats for the same time period:

1861, Early November

National Morale:
USA = 125
CSA = 82

Victory Points:
USA = 131
CSA = 38

I followed his strategy (mostly) in the second game, and got results almost as good (within 8 USA VPs, 4 CSA VPs).

I don't know if this game would have been as bloody as the our first game (which also ended early):

1862, Late February

Victory Points:
USA = 245
CSA = 106

Combat Losses:
USA = 7314/ 2600 POW
CSA = 6450

IMO, josh is a better player :) barely :)
but I take better care of my men :)
Too bad real life interfered with his game time.

My Strategy (copy josh's Cavalry Strike):

Hold St. Louis MO at all costs.
Quick Cavalry strike at Fort Smith AR.
Take Rolla Depot MO and Jefferson City MO and garrison.
Take Charleston MO.
Take Springfield Depot MO.
Take Fayetteville Depot AR.
Relieve / take Fort Smith AR.
Fremont take Little Rock (down River).
Pacify Indian villages.

The quick strike on Fort Smith AR worked - pass.
I took Rolla and Jefferson City - the garrisons may have held (even though josh had raiders in Missouri) - pass.
I had no plans or capability to take Charleston MO - fail.
josh destroyed the Springfield and Fayetteville Depots - fail.
I reinforced Fort Smith AR, so unless Lyon starved (which is possible) - pass.
Sigel's Brigade and 2d MO (+) were en route to Little Rock at game end (whether they could have taken it is conjecture, maybe josh can fill us in on the forces defending Little Rock) - UNK.
USA pacified 2 villages (I guess I hoped for some VPs out of it, or at least deny shelter to Watie and Price) - 2 / 3 pass.

I also occupied Panther AR and Malvern AR. I hoped to keep josh trapped in the Mississippi Delta regions...

Here's a question - what do players do with the CSA two gunboat fleet?

I used them to protect Charleston MO from amphibious troops by placing them on orange at Kaskaskia Confluent. I don't know if this was successful, except that I held Charleston.

I then moved them (too late, as it turned out) to protect Little Rock AR from amphibs.

I never saw josh's gunboats...

Its purpose seems to be to block the crossing over to Ft Smith and Little Rock in the Far West scenario. Four elements give you a 90 percent chance to stop a crossing.
