Also both parties should make sure the port of their chosing is open on their routers (portforwarding).

I thought that port forwarding wasn't needed with Hamachi, as it emules a virtual LAN..?
This software is very simple to handle and may save you a lot of time. I suggest to try WW1 with Hamachi's LAN to see if it works before thinking to forward ports for standard TCP/IP connection...


I don't know which ones are used by WW1, but if the ports aren't already open, forwarding them depends of the configuration (routers and such), ISP and firewall.
It may be an easy task or a very complex in the case of original installations (i.e. Calvinus'), but with my ISP, a few clicks only are needed to forward a port on their router-modem box.
And adding exceptions to the win XP firewall is a formality.
