jam!!

Wed Dec 10, 2008 9:17 pm

I've just scan this discussion.

I hope I got all available manual section....

IMHO, it's much better keep together threads with manual's sections or sometimes you could post a new thread with a fully updated zip file with all manual's section.

So a newbie (..and a veteran too!!) can take all chapters just in one click!!!

Just my (italian) 2 cents..

I agree. It would be great if the manual sections where all in one stickied location.

Guess, when single manual parts will be checked and improved we'll have the full manual in one PDF doc, as with all other AGEod games, and probably included in next patch, too :neener:

As someone who bought the game yesterday this should be happening NOW...that I'm having to trawl for the manual (such as it is ....plain daft)

The poster is absolutely correct...there should be a single sticky for the manual :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

You're right. This is the trick. But before doing so, a lot of proofreading is being done by volunteers and myself...we can't offer a manual that is not finished...hence the sections stuff... a little more time please :D

Here are 2 threads dedicated to recommended Books and Bibbiographie!
They could be added to Gane manual to as an Appendix! :neener:

Hi Phil,
could you please add the new chapters to the first post of this thread - would make it easier to find them.

I reached the maximum of the 5 allowed files on my previous post. I will have to add any others here. This was the last of the initial six posted by Phil.

Any spacing, punctuation, or spelling corrections are not noted. Any change to sentence structure, or deletions, are highlighted in blue font.

A note for English speaking players; I did not change any place names, country/territory names, or individual names. I did not want to deviate from what may be "in game" spelling.

Note: Previously posted files that have undergone further changes will be resubmitted here-(and further down the thread if necessary ;) ).

Britain not England!!

Sat Dec 13, 2008 11:34 pm

Phil: Since I have not yet got my copy (tis my wife's Xmas present to me!) I have not commented on the game details. But there is one point (found in several places already) which you need to fix. Being French you naturally translate Angleterre into English; not so the Nation should be called either Great Britain or the United Kingdom - the collective word should be British not English. Using 'English' is like saying Prussian not German or Parisienne not French (mind you I am stretching the idea a bit with the latter!). Keep up the good work. When you have what seems to be final I will happily look over to correct any language discrepancies.

Fix is done in most proofread docs now: England has become Britain everywhere ;) ...except when a specific geographic aspect is involved (e.g. Zeppelin air raids over 'England' in late 1917)...

Are there plans to post sections about the more basic aspects of WW1? Things like the battle screen where there are things going on that I can't figure out and the four map modes and the sub modes. Example, the "supply screen. What do the colors mean? There seems to be no rhime or reason. Just a basic listing of what the various colors mean would be great. Many of us are still treying to play the small scenarios to try to understand the basics of the game. The tool tips are great but the game just isn't intuitive.

Hope someone reads this.

It will be available of course...it's jsut that it's not final yet, and some sections are under scrutiny by Calvinus now... the alternative to 'college course' was to get nothing at all till complete :D

Produciton Chapter of Manual on "gifts"?

Wed Dec 31, 2008 3:00 pm

The draft manual, in rule 21.12.2 says that nations can give Munitions and EP to each other within certain limits, during the interphase.

However, it doesn't say how this is done on the production screen, and I've not been able to find where these gifts can be allocated? Where are they?

Overall, the draft manual has a lot of places where it says a player can do something, but it doesn't explain how to do it in the computer game. This is one example.

Technology Chapter vs the game

Wed Dec 31, 2008 3:05 pm

The draft manual says that the following happens at the end of the tech phase:

22.3.1 Technology Progression
At the end of the technology phase, each side has one of its projects that advances by 16% extra chance of success, chosen at random. This also includes those technologies which have been tested but failed.

If the side has invested 40 EP, a second project in the list will advance by 16%, or alternatively the initial one will advance 33% (choice is random).

I have yet to see any technology increase in % chance. They all just stay the same (usually 16%). Has anyone seen this mechanic working in the game yet?

Political Action % chances in game don't match manual?

Wed Dec 31, 2008 3:20 pm

In the political actions appendix, it shows the rolls needed, and the drm, for each political action. These match the boardgame almost exactly.

However, the % chances displayed for each action in the game (on the screen where you select political actions) do not appear to be the same.

For example:

In my current CG as the Centrals, for Germany's "Call up Conscripts" political action it says Germany has a 50% chance of success. However, based on the manual, it should be 92%.

Here is what the appendix says that = 92%

Success D12 Roll: 7+
+? Parliament
+1 Britain, Germany, Italy
+2 Russia
-1 in 1917 or -2 in 1918

Germany Parliament is at +2 level, so with that +2 and the +1 modifier for Germany, Germany succeeds with this political action on a 4 or higher on 2 x 6-sided dice. Needing a 4+ means only 3 possible rolls fail (out of 36 possibilities), which also means 33 out of 36 possibilities succeed. That's an 92% chance of success (and an 8% chance of failure).

Based on what I've seen, they actual % chance "under the hood" in the game may match what the manual says, but the displayed % chance of success is clearly wrong. The problem is that players will see that % chance of success and make poor decisions b/c they think an event might have a 50% chance of failure, when the chance (in this example) is only 8% to fail. Same problem seems to be the case with all the displayed political action % chances of success.

Anyone else notice this?

Game / Manual mismatches for Diplomacy

Wed Dec 31, 2008 3:41 pm

Another mismatch between the draft manual and the game:

In the game, you can send diplomats to Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Albania (I've seen the AI do it, and I tried it myself). However, the Diplomatic appendix says "no diplomacy possible" for Switzerland, and doesn't even list Albania or Luxembourg as nations?

I think manual needs to be fixed / updated, or the diplo screen in the game needs to not list those three nations.

I believe the error is in the game rather than in the manual, oddly enough :coeurs: ;) ... I'll check that with Calvinus upon his return...

All new games are beta tests. The only way to avoid this is to resist impulse buying and wait for reviews and news of patches.

Dear Jim,

I think dignifying this game with the term "Beta Test" is somewhat over egging your pudding old chap....frightfully sorry old bean, but your optimism seems a little misplaced...I think a functioning manual is a bit of a pre-requesite for any release....

We'll see after the manual and next patch is finished. Remember, no game is ever really finished; the question is how much effort the devs put into it.

Well you have me there...given AGEOD's record to date I have confidence they will resolve all issues...but it still is bloody frustrating....the game offers seemingly so much and then just as I am about to pull off a military miracle....(CAVALRY TO THE FORE don't you know!)....CRASH!!!

I guess I'll just have to develop some footslogger patience......but the Cavalry Spirit burns so bright in this little soul!.....damn hard old boy....damn hard!

Jim: There has been no shortage of effort put into this game by the developer and by AGEOD, as usual. I am still hoping. :p apy:

Love AGEOD. Love your games. Love your support. Hoping to someday love WWI:LGG.

But it's really asking a lot from your fans to release such a complex game without a manual. Not sure I've ever seen that before.
