Last Unit Lockup?

Wed May 26, 2010 8:38 pm

Odd lockup discovered this date, haven't seen anything similar. Under Turkish attack in Basra all British units except X Corps were eliminated and it was damaged and immobile. See attached screenshot, WW1G was waiting for me to place X Corps into the Front Line but being immobile, that was not possible. None of the options to continue the turn were available so it was essentially locked up and the only way out as far as I could tell was to Ctrl-Alt-Del to terminate the still running game.

The unit is shaken, so you cannot use it again.
Is the Retreat button unavailable?
If you activate the Battle AI Advisor, does it order the retreat on behalf of you?

Side Question: What is that book with all the explanations in the picture? How do I activate it?

It's the BATTLE LOGS window, a new feature developed for WW1 Gold.

Click on the button near the binocular.

This is what I figured!

Yes - retreat was not an available option, the button remained dark when moused over and clicking it had no effect. Defenders backs to the sea perhaps so no retreat path?

Tried that but nothing happened after 15-minutes. That's when I decided to exit the game the hard way.

Townsend was pretty useless historically but he did hold on the redone game turn. Am not complaining, just thought you should be made aware that this happened.

Which game mode? 4-players?
Do you have a savegame where I can reproduce this odd behaviour?

Yes, playing as France

Have attached the save at the end of the Military Phase for July 1915 however, when I replayed it the Turkish attack was unsuccessful and the issue did not reoccur. I suspect this will only happen rarely, seemingly when the only surviving defending unit is shaken and cannot be moved to the Front Line box and the attacker still has attack rounds remaining.

Odd it's never happened before, sorry!

A very similar behaviour has been reported with beta version 1.08E. Yesterday I posted an update of 1.08E tagged as 1.08.6 (see "Help Improve WW1" section), and all testers reported the issue as fixed. ;)
