French and Indian War Variants

Sun Aug 26, 2012 3:56 pm

I'm thinking of starting a new French and Indian War campaign, this time as the French. I'm wondering if there's any difference in the British AI performance between the normal and the so-called colonial variant of this scenario? Does it perform equally well in both? Which one should I choose?

I am not the best source on AI play, but in my experience the AI behavior is the same. The only difference is a greater command penalty in British forces without Colonial commanders. That is, the Brits in the Albany area my lack a Colonial commander. Very small difference.

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to make life too difficult for the AI, so I've decided to play the normal scenario.

I'm about to make my first attempt at the campaign's colonial variant, playing the French. I'll post my impressions of the AI's performance.

Well, although I didn't complete the campaign (I was impatient to get on to the AWI campaign) I got a fair way. I found that the AI could still pull off some decent manoevres, even with the complication of colonial control. In fact, I didn't notice any deterioration of the AI's skill overall.
