FIW Colonial Campaign -- "Crucible of War"...

Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:20 am

I finally finished the campaign and won a decisive victory in March 1763 as the British. I captured both New Orleans and Detroit, and the French were done for. It was a tough war, and the French AI was a worthy opponent, but I stuck with it and finished it. After four years of owning this game, I did it. :D

So, I guess the next step will be taking over as the Americans in 1775 and playing out the Revolution. I'll call this one "the Glorious Cause", after Robert Middlekauff's book.

You inspire me! I think I'll play the Pequod War! :) Actually, I've been looking to get into this game more. I started King William's War (42 turns) but made some serious mistakes and quit. I guess I should play it through because that is truly the only way you can measure your success or failure.

I too have just completed my first successful playing of the French & Indian War scenario (colonial variant). It was my fifth attempt and I clinched a Sudden Death victory for the British in November 1761. The previous attempts weren't defeats as such, rather I re-started repeatedly, as I was using the scenario as a learning tool and I found the subtleties of the game system only made sense to me gradually. In fact, I still can't say that I've actually mastered the system as yet, but I felt I was getting better each time :-). Thoroughly enjoyed the game! So now I'll start again, this time as the French.
