I may have missed it, but are there event icons on the battle report screen that let you know when your troops have formed a square?

Hi

No, i think there isn't. Its done automatically.
You should be able to see it on teh full battle log generated after each battle on the logs folder on your game installation.
There each event of the battle is recorded. A great source of info but pretty long and complex.
Regards

Indeed, with some spare days (or perhaps 2 weeks, but don't dream...) the log could be shown to player in game, in a much more readable way.

Back to the points, there is no icon indeed on these 2 actions.

in French we say "it's a sea serpent"... Meaning the 'thing' is around since quite some time, we want to make it, eventually, one day, but never have the time to do it. I really don't know when then. That would be fantastic for VGN though :)
