Why Won't Mack Unlock

Mon Jan 14, 2008 11:50 pm

Hello,

I'm playing the 1805 Austerlitz scenario as Coalition. Mack begins the game locked, and the note says he will unlock in 1 turn. To me, that means, he will be ready to move on turn 2, but that's not the case. In fact, the sequence of events was:
Turn 1: Locked
Turn 2: Attacked, but did not unlock.
Turn 3: Remained locked. Attacked, anhilated.

It seems to me that Mack should have unlocked at the beginning of Turn 2, or AT least, beginning of Turn 3 due to be attacked.

Best,

Sage

Poor unfortunate Mack. He never gets a break.

There is a spy event which relocks him several time with 90% chances I believe.

Yes... check to see if a French Leader counter Schumeister appears in the Ulm region with Mack. Also check your message log to see if this event has triiggered. As POCUS has stated, this French spy has the effect of relocking Mack in Ulm. In most cases, Mack is frozen until turn 3 by this event.

Look at this initial setup. Forget about Mack in this scenario, he is doomed (as he was historically). If you are playing as the Coalition, get as far away from Mack as you can. Do not reinforce him with Auffenburg or Spranger. Just run for Munich as fast as you can. The French will lose on average between 5-9,000 men taking Mack down, which they do almost automatically. Thats the cost of doing business.

Oh, got it. I think that's exactly what happened. I missed the message in the log.

Yeah, I ended up running for Munchen as quickly as possible, but due to some bad activation rolls, not much made it there intact.

One of my commanders held the mountain pass to italy against the grand armee for about 4 weeks, besting Bonie on the field several times, and maintaing his force. In the south, my troops were able to take the objective city (Milano IIRC). I gathered the surviving austrians and the Russian reinforcements at Linz, but the French never attacked. The scenario was a Stalemate, which I was pretty happy with.

Interesting result. Could you post what the final losses were on each side?
