Map.bmp for exmap

Fri Jun 28, 2019 1:58 pm

Hello. I want to ask here for advice, maybe someone will help. I am studying the exmap program and I want to use it for editing maps in RUS games and others. But I need the original map.bmp file for the game RUS, where can I download it or who has it?

Pocus or PhilThib, I guess.

Send Pocus a PM, because PhilThib is gone.

Unfortunately for all the years I have not found the original map.bmp. The Pocus also can not help.
So I decided to create a map.bmp for RUS (and then maybe for PON and WON) manually. Using the Exmap program, I find out the region number and its location on the map and then manually compose a map from the individual pictures of the regions. It's even funny, it looks like assembling jigsaw puzzles).
Having a map.bmp file will make it much easier to fix map errors, make additions to it, and also create new regions! It is strange that in 15 years NONE of the modders in the world has done this (or at least begged for this card from the authors).

ps: If anyone still has these damn map.bmp maps for RUS or any other Ageod game, please post them here! I would be very grateful.

Here is what I have on a hard disk, but that's not much
https://we.tl/t-XM9kBDA95a

there is not the ACW2 or RED map, sorry. The maps are PON, ACW1, NCP1 ... I think.

I'll try to find something else on an older PC.

I doubt Philippe Thibaut will be available anytime soon, I'll try to ping him on this matter in 2 months or so. As you may know, a big data center burnt in France. It happens that this was the data center hosting his files (he had backups though, but everything must be installed again)

No news of Gilles since more than half a dozen years probably.

Many thanks ! I downloaded your archive. The PON map is quite working - I think there will be people who want to do it and fix it - add

Of course you need. If I or someone else wants to modify the map WON .
I will create an open archive with all available maps. And everyone will be able to use them.

Also, I am now mastering the Exmap program. And we will create detailed instructions for working with it. This requires the help of those who have already worked with it and created new regions.

I have a map of what strongly resembles the one used for ACW2, but it surely can't be the master one because it is too small. I've got a copy of at least one version of ExMap, would be willing to help if I can.

The map.bmp file must be huge, the size of a real game map, and weigh more than 500 MB. Only it can be used in the Exmap program.
Tomorrow I will finish creating the RUS map - this is an exciting but very hard and painstaking work. I don’t think I can make other maps - but maybe someone will want to repeat my feat)).

I have already learned how to create split regions into two and add new regions below and to the right of the main map, but I realized that I cannot expand the map up and to the left - for this you need to create all the regions anew, and this is too much work (.

For some reason, many corners of new regions have the adjacencyX = -1 parameter, you have to manually replace them with the numbers of neighboring regions. Apparently this is due to the fact that it is very difficult to accurately get a point on the border of a neighboring region - I can not imagine how the authors of the game did it.

I don’t think he keeps a drawing of the map he drew 15 years ago. But of course you can ask him that.

Thank. I downloaded the map and created a working version of ExMap for War Of Napoleone.

Anyone wishing to change the map for the game WON or just try modding the map

Download ExMap for WON

There are already installed maps and files of all regions. And also all types of territories and all factions of WON

- You just need to download and unpack the archive,
-then install the ExMap folder in the section you need
- Then open the ExMap2.Ini file in a text editor and specify the correct path to the adjacent WON folder ( ON YOUR COMPUTER ! )
Image
-After that, save the modified ExMap2.Ini file and run the ExMap2.exe program

ExMap for Pride Of Nations is ready!

Download ExMap for PON

Then open the ExMap2.Ini file in a text editor and specify the correct path to the adjacent PON folder ( ON YOUR COMPUTER ! )

PON (and ExNMap PON) has a dedicated Doodads folder. But what she adds is unknown .??
There is also a winter card for PON and you can use it in the main place. To do this, save the current map.bmp (summer) under a different name and then rename PON_Winter_Map.bmp to Map.bmp

Unfortunately there is only a terrain map. But even with it, you can understand where you need to create new regions or change existing ones, and put on this map a picture of the desired region from the Graphics \ Regions folder

andrzej, thank you very much for these. I've got it loaded up for CW2 and it seems to be working, much better than my previous attempts at getting it to function. Assuming I can learn this application without breaking too many things, I might have solved a bunch of problems.

You say you know how to split regions into one or more other regions? Can you tell me how you do that, and if there's a tutorial somewhere on using ExMap?

No, I myself searched for all the information on this forum by the word "ExMap"
Well, and also through experiments, "what happens if I press this button .. and what if this and then this and so on"

grimjaw wrote:You say you know how to split regions into one or more other regions?

Here I probably didn’t put it very correctly - you just cannot divide the region.
-First, you need to change (reduce) the size of the existing region, then create a new one (with a new number) on the vacated territory.
-Then create new Jumplink and TransLink.
-Then create new .rgn files and .bmp images for both regions.
-Then check the correctness of the junction points (Adjacency0 = 997, etc.) in the .rgn files - they should not have a value of (-1), it must be manually corrected to the number of neighboring regions (to which this point is adjacent).
-Then add the resulting .rgn to the list of regions in \ GameData \ Regions. , and his picture in a folder Graphics \ Regions
- Then add the name and number of the new region to the Regions.ini file.
-Then add the region name to the corresponding area in the Areas.ini file.
- then create a description of the new region (and change that of the stripped-down old one (if necessary) in the .scn script file
- And only then you can run the script and see what happened, and correct errors - in particular, recheck the connection lines with neighboring regions.

Created a better pic of the whole map with fog of war off, zooming out and then joining 3 pics (perfectly joined I hope :siffle: ).

This is the file, not the map.bmp, but enough for my minimods:

How did you remove all panels from the game map in order to take screenshots?
Your idea is very interesting, why I didn't guess about it earlier. ( ((

I just deleted "GUIBottomLeft" and "GUITopLeft" folders from "ECW\Graphics\FrontEnd".

The game loads without problems. Only you will notice in the top left of the map I uploaded a small part of the banner that for some reason still appeared.

The gui in the right was not necessary to remove because there is margin.

Finally, I brought ExMap to mind for the RUS game and made a Russian-language version of the program - translated all the buttons and made a Russian-language pop-up description for them. also changed the layout of the buttons for better readability and usability
For example, I also made beautiful and visual images of city sprites, port icons and other information, and now they can be placed in the region and clearly see how they will look in the game
