PON one month turn

This mod is just changing the trun duration to one month, and updating data to avoid any discrepancies.

This preliminary work is almost done and I should upload the first working version soon.

Now of course, there are maybe yet under the hood features tailored for 15 days turn and unmodabble...So the mod is in its very preliminary test phase.

But at last, there are no need to wait a full 4 weeks holidays period to hope to reach 1890 in a game ;) PON will remain a long game but 1850-1890 period is "only" 480 turns, ie the equivalent of a Civilization game. The end turn isn't longer with 30 days turn, so much time is spared from the official version.

I've expanded a bid the mod, especially adapting the taxation turn intervall, available here:

http://moddercorner.com/2011/06/18/pon-one-month-turns-experimental-draft-released/

I've too created a more automated install process of the mod, as explained below:

First, you should create a copy of your Pride of Nations directory, so a copy will be left untouched by the mod, and the second modded. There are no side effects as having several copies of any AGEOD game based on the AGE engine ( BOA, WIA, NCP, AACW, ROP , RUS and PON of course)

The modded copy should have as path C:\ Pride of Nationsmod. This path will be the one used for installation. If you choose to apply the mod to the normal directory, or to give another name to the second Pride of Nations folder, you will have to enter the new path manually when prompted.

Then:

1) Unrar contents of the archive in the C:\Pride of Nationsmod\VGN folder.

2) Open the PON OneMonth command file (.bat)

3) Follow the instructions ;-). When prompted click yes. And click yes for any overwriting question.

If the mod isn't properly installed? That's certainly because the path of your PON folder isn't the default one, C:\Pride of Nationsmod. The path could be C:\Program Files (x86)\Pride of Nationsmod\VGN or C:\Program Files\Pride of Nationsmod\VGN.

It could be D:\Pride of Nationsmod if you installed it on another HD. In such a case, just enter the right path when prompted.

I think this idea has great potential! I like the idea of planning and playing a month at a time. Although some might feel it loses some of the tactical opportunities available at two-week scale, I think a one-month scale feels nicely balanced for the size of provinces and the kinds of activities we're mostly doing in PoN.

Looking forward to further developments!

Thanks.

Only after SVF and with a stabilized PON version I guess we should get around October.

I should add the readings of the last PON threads has convinced me:

- PON diplomacy system needs 2 overhauls, one for the engine itself as things as essential than German Confederation isn't depicted rightly, the second for the AI which seems to be subpar in diplomacy
- PON economy, for all its complexity, is offering too few difficulty for players once mastered the GUI problems. I wonder how economical crisis are depicted and I'm guessing economical crisis to be just lacking in PON. What is covered is some of the troubles for developping Russia, but the economical engine is maybe too a work in progress
-last, the 1,680 turns is just to much to assess the rightness of fixes and corrections. When I read about military AI shortcommings, I think first to what I could do with events to improve the AI, but immediatly I'm appaled by the time I would have to spend to TEST the events....

In short, what is worrying me Isn't PON can't improve, but the time and means mandatory to perfect the game are certainly closer to some months than weeks...
