ok got it, yes indeed it was an erase and the eraser works well. :)

Now a slightly different question, how can I reduce the alpha value of a particular zone without altering the balance of colors. I could paste over the zone a white, filled, rectangle with alpha 128, but that would lighten the whole zone.

I do not know that one.

Probably Photoshop can do that, there are several eraser tools and you can modify opacity, but apparently is not possible in Paint

ok, I'll live without, I discovered Pain.NET thanks to you, and it is a great program, much more simple than photoshop, and free...

Hi Nikel, I have discovered Paint.NET thanks to you also!
I was wondering if, when you (or anyone else with the know how) gets the time, you could convert these two images into the Army size.
It would save me a lot of hassle and they are the last two mdl's I need to do this for to complete the KWW units.

The leaders I will try and do using your guide over the next few weeks.

Hi Nikel, I thought I should at least make a slight difference to Benjamin Church's Ranger unit - some more hair and an extra strap is about all I can manage. If you could make an Army graphic out of this one as well I will be done

I put the select tool over the image and tried to work out how to change the colour or make it a bit darker - but eventually gave up! So - perfect!

Only snag is you will need to make the unit image darker as well :)

Many thanks,
Chris

This is a hat from 1705 so I'm telling myself this sort of hat could have been worn 15 years earlier :)

Slight hat amendment to look a bit more like the Church's Rangers picture.

I thought I would try to create an event image. I have got this far but I have no idea how to lighten the background to give it the look of the other event images - how to remove the green tinge? Can anyone tell me what sort of tool I should use for this in Paint.NET?

Thanks, Chris

Thanks Nikel but I was wondering if there was an easy way to get the sort of cream background a lot of events have like this one.
They have a sort of standard look.

Maybe not?

May be difficult.

Try reducing a bit hue, a bit more saturation and increase lightness. Then increase contrast, but cannot reproduce that exact look :bonk:

It looks a little bleached but with a bit more work I might be able to improve it. Thanks once more Nikel!

Hi Nikel, I just realised that I don't have the Army version of Frontenac - you only posted the Unit. Can you post the Army version if you have it? I'm still struggling somewhat with graphics (but gradually getting there).

Nikel, I was meaning to ask what the screenshots are from. What is NYPL? I've not looked at the NCP forum for some time. This is a mod that I have missed somehow from NCP - or RoP - WiA? (I'm very confused) I like both Frontenac's - I may use the second as a different leader if he is not too recognisable to players as Frontenac.

With your help I've made good progress up until now with graphics but I struggled a bit today changing a few portraits. I need to get the hang of the hair. I assume the big hair in portraits like d'Iberville is a wig. Leaders like Portneuf or Hertel would I assume have had less hair or tied back hair when going on a raid. I'm just starting to look into this so if anyone has any knowledge they could share or pictures please post.

Thanks, Chris

New York Public Library

According to this site this is a portrait of Frontenac, Louis de Buade, comte de, 1620-1698. He is your Frontenac, is he not?

http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchdetail.cfm?trg=1&strucID=593743&imageID=1241268&word=frontenac&s=1¬word=&d=&c=&f=&k=0&lWord=&lField=&sScope=&sLevel=&sLabel=&total=39&num=0&imgs=20&pNum=&pos=1

What do you mean with what the screenshots are from. NCP or RoP mod? :bonk:

Just found that portrait of Frontenac, colored and reformatted it and tested in WiA ;)

Ah! :) I realised after I posted that it made no sense that you would have a screenshot of Frontenac at Louisburg - very confusing :bonk:
Yes - he is my Frontenac. I didn't realise you could take an image like that and change it to fit in so well with the game. I have been looking for images that already look quite close to the game images. Just as an example before I try it - images like this could be converted? (I have a feeling the top one would end up looking pretty odd though). I assume neither of these would make for a good portrait?
