Game ending prematurely and crashing regullary

Hello, the game ends prematurely often, it for no apparent reason just says "you win" or "you lose" at random dates(still hundreds of years before the scenerio is meant to end) sometimes I can get by the date by reloading over and over until I no longer get a premature ending but even than the game crashes regullary. I've tried changing the settings and tried about ever combination of different settings eg(no logos, no sound, no music, 16 bit, windowed, autosave off, turning off my firewall etc) and still the problem persist. BTW like someone else reported when I run with no sound and no music the game won't even start up.
I am running the game on XP home edition service pack 2, 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, a Gforce 8600 Gts and all my drivers are updated as is my version of direct X and divx. Please help!
