Possible map bug with Decatur, AL

Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:03 pm

Although it is listed as a port on the map, Decatur AL, located in the Lawrence, AL sector on the Tennessee river at Muscle shoals, apparently cannot be entered by riverine units. The river is not frozen, the area is fully-controlled, but any attempt to move from Tuscumbia to Decatur is rejected by the game. This may be because Muscle Shoals is considered unnavigable from downstream, but that map sector is depicted as navigable.
(Note also that it is Muscle Shoals, not Mussel Shoals. :) )

If you run the mouse pointer over a harbor sprite, you get a list of entry points, wich in the cas of Decatur AL has only Waynes Run.
That maybe blocked?

No, Decatur is safely in my hands, and both banks of the river route Tishomingo Bend - Mussel (sic) Shoals - Wayne's Run are fully controlled by my forces, but the transports are not being allowed to advance beyond Tuscumbia. I'm playing 1.15, this may have been fixed in the 1.16 betas, which I haven't used yet.

The Mussel Shoals (right above wayans run) isn't navigable. If I remember right, this was a historical addition as the Tennessee river wasn't fully navigable or something. Someone else may have a better answer but I don't feel like searching for it.

Here's a link to the thread about Tennessee River Navigability at Muscle Shoals:

I was curious about this -- especially having landed Lyon somewhere around Chattanooga the last game I played.

Joys of the search button. I suppose it would make sense that anything termed 'shoals' might not be navigable.

Has anyone had misfortune of building river ships above the shoals as confederates?
