Some Cavalry ideas for BoA2

Wed Mar 19, 2008 2:50 am

I've been looking at cavalry, lately.

A big problem fielding cavalry for both sides was forage for the horses. Cavalry should therefore consume twice the supply (not ammo) of infantry units.

A secondary problem, mostly for the Brits, was finding the horses as the attrition rate, transporting the animals on ship was horrendous. Horses were also used to pull supply wagons and artillery.

Certain areas of America had more horses than others. Connecticut, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina had the most. That's where most of the American cavalry was recruited from.

Dragoons should have poor firepower. After several bad experiences due to lack of firearms in cavalry units being surprised in camp, the Americans went to the legion concept, integrating infantry with cavalry.
