Re: Does this mean the AGE engine style of game is gone?

I believe Sophia78 is a bot that somehow pasted AGE engine into Chat GPT prompt and got an answer from it! :D

Re: Map.bmp for exmap

You can't, this is not my property anymore since 2013 and my entry at Slitherine. Latest discussion from 2-3 years ago was that they prefer not to release the source code. They would prefer modders and volunteers to start learning modding Empires and Kingdoms on any game they want. But no modding wi...

From memory (years ago), the AI has a reduced max penalty to compensate for its limited intelligence, something like half what the player can have.

Re: Kingdoms 30 mn video plus BETA SIGNUP

Hi there, 1274 instead of say 1270 has no specific meaning except to have a campaign last 200 turns. Now, 1270-ish era is on purpose, as it gives a bit of time for the Mongols to rampage through the map, while preserving some 'suspense' for the end game. Will you claim victory or will all be for nau...

Re: game time problem

Excluding the fact your PC has more than 5 years, perhaps it is a matter of a cluttered hard disk. Have you checked it, or compacted it? Also remove debug settings if they are checked in the options, extra logging means extra disk operations.

Re: Does this mean the AGE engine style of game is gone?

I have been lucky to be given the opportunity, without the stress of wondering about what I'll eat each month, to develop a new engine at Slitherine. The truth is the AGE engine was quite 'ageing' and would have needed such a major optimization pass that restarting from scratch was better. Add to th...

Re: Charismatic Trait

Actually, it would require significant efforts, as the difference is between looking at who is the commander, and looking at all leaders, each turn, to see what effect they can produce.
Moreover, it would also mean potential abuse, as you could stack abilities. To which limit?

Re: ---> Field of Glory: Kingdoms announced <---

Medieval era requires a lot of stuff about dynasties, plus Crusades, religion. This could have been done after Pride of Nations, but PON was really the last game adding significant code, and probably too much for the engine shoulders. There are two main novelties for provinces in Kingdoms, one is ab...

Re: What do you think of Grand Tactician: Civil War

I bought it and have been somehow disappointed in the end. It's as you say Pgr, both parts (strategic and tactical) deserve more attention, more polish. The AI in the strategic part is also very abusable.

Re: Civil War III - To be or not to be?

This is not disclosed by Slitherine. What I know is that it seems to have been a much bigger success than expected. My personal analysis is that it's a combination of a large interest in the ACW subject (mostly from Americans but not only?) and a good game engine. It has its flaws (no stacking) but ...

Re: Civil War III - To be or not to be?

Oh, you should not try to hire someone. Only guys with the motivation to do a good game on the ACW should be part of the team. If you start to hire 'professionals', then they won't do a good enough job with enough attention to detail and minutiae.

Yes, we will do dev diaries, but probably not before mid-beta. The economic system won't get a major overhaul that would turn the tables as you would like, sorry to disappoint! :)

Re: Civil War III - To be or not to be?

You probably need to be 2 at least. Both should be motivated to go through probably a few hundred hours of modding/complete conversion, over 2-3 years? One of the guys on the team will need to do some code, but I don't feel it's rocket science by far. Anyone with some engineering background can do t...

Re: Civil War III - To be or not to be?

You know guys, if you were to start a total overhaul of Empires into the ACW, I would gladly lend a hand in terms of technical expertise. I believe Empires has reached enough maturity and depth of detail to tackle the ACW properly. It's a regions-based WEGO of up to 16 players and many aspects are d...

What do you think of Grand Tactician: Civil War

Having played some of Strategic Command: Civil War, I'm yearning for more. I'm on the fence on this one:

Who can vouch for it -- or not? I'm not too much into tactical battles though.

There are some abstractions, so no, 3 academies are not too much. For game balance purposes, they only slightly improve the chance of better leaders.
