A minor suggestion; if easy to implement could the F1 unit roster (or strategic atlas as it seems to be called when mousing over the globe) allow a page up and down or cntl-click command to move through it a page at a time rather than the many clicks on the arrow currently required to read through i...
After playing the game a little more I would like to reiterate a couple of points that have been made before by other players :- 1. It is very difficult to remember what units you have lost after a battle - especially if you only play once or twice a week. A summary screen showing losses so far and ...
Name : Hobbes Scenario/Campaign Name : Any < 50 turns to start off with Preferred side : Any Turn frequency : A turn a day / a few more at weekends but also happy to play a few less Time Zone : Does this matter? A timezone difference tends to help PBEM games This will be my first BoA PBEM game. Hope...
"I am kind of disinclined towards the hex/turn/UGO format." I think there are certain games where the WEGO format works (Combat Mission and indeed BoA and EUII) but I can't understand the bandwagon that seems to be against traditional turn based hex type games. To me there is nothing better. Two gam...
Another possibility would be to record the last land region the unit was on and move back to that if a lake thaws. At present this problem could cost a player the game if a large army is relocated to an enemy controlled area and disintegrates due to lack of supply (as happened to me )
I would be interested to know what logic is used to decide what region to put units into when they find themselves on a lake during a thaw? Maybe at least to a friendly controlled region if possible? On the subject of frozen lakes I was wondering if ships were still allowed to bombard when they are ...
Hi folks, It's a little upsetting to move an army along the frozen shore of lake Ontario from Oswego to Gannegaro only to have a thaw and the entire army to find themselves cut off in French territory on the other side of Ontario! I'm sure an army would never be able to cross such a lake in any case...
And the Navy? (I'm just taking notes in case we ever meet in the field - or the water :) ) P.S. You are probably the master of this game rather than the novice! From your previous insightful posts I'm amazed you have just completed your first GC. (I'm not surprised you won!) Time to play a human I t...
Great post Mark. How about playing a human? I'm not offering myself as I need to try a grand campaign first and it looks like you need a strong opponent! Any tips on how you use stealthy - or sneaky units? How about the navy? How do you use them? It would be interesting to know. Was there a post abo...
I noticed in my last turn the message "France is besieging Fort Western, but achieved nothing this month" There are no further messages concerning Fort Western yet it begins the next turn in French hands. Is there any explanation for this? However I have no idea what units I had garrisoned at Fort W...
Hi folks, can anyone answer:- 1. If I have 1 infantry unit + 1 artillery unit besieging a fort and 100 infantry units inside the fort - If the SRV is higher than the average TQ of the 100 defending units would they surrender? Without a fight? To 1 infantry unit? Also - does the supply value of a for...
Pocus, this is Washington on turn 1 of the Montcalm scenario. If you put his group on passive he seems to vacate the fort before battle - maybe there is a good reason for this. He then wins all battles but loses the fort.
Thanks Pocus. I think the current rules work OK but it would be nice to have a chance to override them with some sort of flagged for reinforcement button. I suppose militia reinforcements could spring up anywhere but the commander (the player) should have some say as to where regular troops head too...
Thanks Pocus, our threads crossed then. Seems strange that a unit suffers defensively in a fort if the only reason they are in a passive stance is to improve the chance of reinforcements. Why would the units in a fort be less prepared for an attack because they want reinforcements? If that's the cas...
Now I'm trying to remember the reinforcement rule - you have to be in a level 2 town? I use search but come up with too many threads! Surley you should be able to be reinforced in a fort if the fort is not cut off from supply? I would like to be able to reinforce a unit by flagging it for reinforcem...
Hi folks, are there any penalties for being in a passive stance rather than a defensive one while in a fort? It seems there shouldn't be. The only reason to be passive is to increase the chance of reinforcement? It seems that that to go into a vulnerable stance to maximise the chance of reinforcemen...
