River crossing "under guns"

In my last game I was briefly frustrated by being unable to cross a river (the Ohio, in this particular case) due to it being "under enemy guns". The only real problem with this is that it's difficult to tell exactly where the river is or isn't under enemy guns. Could an icon possibly be added to th...

Can I now go on the offensive in Kentucky?

Yes. The first side to attack in kentucky causes the event, and once it's fired the state is decided.

What is the red X icon?

Occasionally, units on the game map will receive an icon above them showing three infantry guys in line witha big red X above them. What exactly does this icon represent?

I'm guessing that it has to do with cohesion, but I'd like to know for sure.

Here's a related question.
Is there any way to view the abilities of your generals without going through them one by one on the game map? Does it show their abilities anywhere in the ledger?

Oh, beleive me, you won't get any argument from me about any of that... like I said above, I don't think that anything fundamental should be changed. It's just that, as a new player, the tool tips in the ledger are extremely easy to miss. Once you're used to the interface it's obvious to look for th...

Yes, many people have problems noticing this. But i cannot understand why. As soon as you pass the mouse over the options texts a tool tip appears telling you to click to rotate between options :bonk: It seems people don't like to read tooltips :D It's obvious once you get used to it. There really should be buttons or something drawn on the ledger screens. This is something that I had trouble with as well, when I was getting started. I had to read a post here before I figured it out, myself.

Is the south preprogrammed to lose the war in this game? Definately not. I just won a game as the CSA... Although, I will say this: "victory" for the CSA is anything other than complete annihilation. There's most certainly a (well justified) bias towards the CSA loosing. It seems by late 62 regardl...

I would just load down the HQ with art since it seems to avoid combat for the most part. That's the realistic thing to do, anyway. Usually the bulk of artillary reported to the Corp/Army command during the time period, according to my understanding. I usually load up my divisions with infantry and ...

lol oh, I've done it myself. It's certainly not useless by any means... I just don't think that it pays off that well, is all. I'll add to that: It'd be very much worth it if your opponent responds directly to it. One of the main points to raiding is disrupting supply. Slowing down movement is nice,...

(now to ddecide what is "best", a higher morale, or more vp?)

I don't play competatively at all, so take my opinion for what it's worth here. I'd think that Morale would be a beter gauge than VP, though. It seems less suceptable to "gaming" the score.

Calvalry raiding is a waste though (although not completely). All those conscript points, cash, and war supplies... you're much better off saving up and buying the strong regular units and building up good divisions. Defence is very powerful, tactically. Defend always, and attack with movement and p...

I'm playing a game against the USA AI now where I'm just under 50% inflation. It's mid-1864, and I invaded Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana this summer... I'm holding the line in the east just north of Baltimore. I did loose fairly bad in the West (Missouri, where I just lost St. Louis)...
