The subsequent diplomacy phase brings interesting news: Turkey opens the Dardanelles to the Central Powers and swings two notches in favor of the CPs, nullified by swinging three points for the Allies On the other hand, Italy moves two bits closer to the Entente, but that's more than evened out by a...

Syt learns to play WW1

Ok, mastered the tutorials, read a bit on the boards, tinkered a bit with the game and decided that it's time for my first real game where I try to pick it up on the go. I acknowledge that V104b is not yet perfect, that the AI probably needs polishing (as does the game on the whole), but I think the...

I think it would be nice if there's a way if you have the max of ten cards and have to pick two you get to pick which two to discard (either newly picked ones or ones from the hand). On the other hand it's a nice thing if you sometimes have to play events even though relatively useless to free up sp...

calvinus, I think the question is not why there are impassable areas, but why there is an army in an impassable area in that scenario. :)

Loving the Game's Music

Just chiming in that I really like the selection of music for this game. The English music hall songs are a very nice addition, too bad they didn't have digital recording back in the day. ;) And I love the Italian choirs. However, did "Under the Double Eagle" have to be included three times? I enjoy...

World War One is hardly at all remembered in Germany, for what it's worth. Mostly because the Third Reich towers immenselsy above anything else in German history. I doubt many Germans could tell you much about The Great War except the years and that we had a Kaiser. And that there were trenches. The...

I am currently reading 1914 - 1918 by David Stevenson. It's a rather complete book, first giving a general overview, and then tearing into specific topics (economy, motivation/manpower, tactics/technology etc.). It's more exhaustive than Keegan (ca. 600 pages without appendix, 40 lines/page). I also...

The score is a fucking joke. The game deserved a 6.2/10 exactly how? In the good old days games did not get a lower score just because they were hard. It would have been enough if he had given a warning that this is really difficult game. Everyone who reads this should head over and write a comment...

I am also puzzled how to translate VON to German: "Eitel Ruhm der Nationen", "Ruhm und Eitelkeit der Nationen" .. all sounds stupid to me. Much better sounding would be "Für Ruhm und Vaterland", but like "Blut und Eisen" it suggests a game from the Prussian / German perspective - which is not corre...

Have you guys (and gals) at Ageod ever thought about doing something with the wars of the 19th century, such as the Austro-Prussian, Franco-Prussian, numerous Russo-Turkey Wars, among others? It seems the scale you have for both the ACW and Napoleon's Campaigns is perfectly suited to this badly neg...

Negative reviews do have to advantage of making you think about a few things you probably didn't notice yourself.

Also, kudos for posting the link - other game companies are a little more, shall we say: "selective" in the reviews they link and quote. ;)

Chandler's "Campaigns of Napoleon" looks daunting, but is an easy read. It is an excellent book! Anyone who says there is a better Napoleonic History book, I will seriously fight you. Agreed. Also check "Cassell Military Paperbacks". I have Duffy's Borodino 1812 and Austerlitz 1805 - both good read...
